Nah, my Dad's Japanese so he thought it was cool that I got into J-Rock. My Mom is more into the K-Pop stuff that I listen to. She would even sing the English parts when I played songs in the car.

Its funny cause I am Chinese and I listen to Korean and Japanese music more than Chinese music. I don't particularly like Canto music and I like some mandarin songs but I find Korean music and Japanese music different and unique. My parents think I'm weird cause I don't find interest in my own race's music. Its just how it is.

My family doesn't get mad, really. They don't mind. My dad could care less about what Asian song I'm listening to, at least it sounds good. My mom makes fun of me just because I like Jpop. Saying "Can you understand what they're saying?" or "Why are you listening to this when you're not Japanese?" No screw you, shut up. You listen to your husband's Punjabi music and I'm not complaining.
Just because you like a certain type of music from a different country that doesn't always have to mean you need to understand what they're saying. Isn't that why they have English lyrics?? Besides, it's fun to look songs up because then you actually know. Also, most Asian songs look like poetry if you look up the English lyrics or if you understand what they're singing about.

I just made this into a huge rant. whoops.

i dont really live with my mom so it doesnt matter if the idea of me listening to it would make her mad or not, but more than likely she would just insult the genre instead of getting mad

No, they shouldn't be mad.

But if you're blasting it out loud, then they have the rights to complain no matter what the genre is

Gladly, my parents don't really care. I mean, Japanese music is not the only thing I listen to. I listen to music from a bunch of different countries, including American, of course. I would be listening to a Japanese rock song, and then move on to a German ballad, after that I would listen to something like American Folk, etc... So yea...

I really don't understand the parents that get mad, though.

That's what's great about music, It's universal! You don't need to understand what they are saying to enjoy a certain song, but looking up the lyrics of the track (the ones that have them) , does make you understand the song better.
