I've seen in Korean dramas and tv shows that a person who just won something will hold their fist in front of their face and then point their index finger up a couple of times. Can anyone tell me what this means? I understand it has something to do with them winning, but what is it that they're doing exactly?

i/m curious why there are so many japanese series that revolves around school bullying..
is it really that rampant or common in their country?

Yup, it is a shockingly growing phase in Japan.
There is a rising number of school bullying in Japan. Although there are authorities "Trying" to do something about it, with the amount of stress and pressure among school kids, it's kinda difficult to control school bullying.

really?if that is so then i don't want to attend schooling there..

bullying happens everywhere! i think it's becoming more common in modern society possibly due to increased influences through media as well....
i know for a fact it's not just japan. Australia has some bullying problems too....the past few yrs there are increased programs on teaching children about bullying...and talking to them about it in hopes of lowering it..(it does seem to help..somewhat)

answer to the bath thing. IN japan, it's not just the onsen, even in the baths at home (well...traditional ones anywayz, some japanese homes still have the traditional rooms etc, while others opt for the western style) you wash off first and then you step into the bath. The bath is shared (well used...not neccessarily at the same time) by all of the family. Soaking in the bath is not to clean oneself (as in western culture) but purely to relax =] and yeh, it's more hygenic, so they wash off before going into public baths, onsens etc. Japan is one of the cleanest countries i know ^_^

sigh i was about to say that.... but u said it first XD

lol just one step ahead xD!

im curious, especially in japanese drama/movie... they prefer using flip phones. I like them too, i had one before, but it broke easily.

flipping it open makes it a bit more dramatic xD + if you look @ the phone models available in japan, MOST are actually flip models =] (hehe i will also say that it's chosen also coz you can decorate it really prettily xD! deco mobile, deco is really really popular in japan now!) Flip phones are just more popular (i wanna get a flip one too....*sigh* )

hehehe~

well for us asians, respect is the most important thing. and respect is combined with hierachie.

Ya, i kinda agree. Haha, in an Asian parents' mind and concept (I think it's the same for most parents around the world)
Their kid will always be their kid/child (especially one who never grows up) in their eyes. That's how the controlling came about.
Cos their parents do not want their kids to grow up so soon. But when they do, sometimes it's a bit difficult to accept the fact that their kids can make up their mind. They just worry that their kids will go wayward, so, parents like to make the decisions for the child.

And in a good filial child's mind, one always haf to respect their elders, no matter how difficult it might be

yeah, and asian parents think their children dont know what they do like : falling in love makes blind.

Asian Dramas or Movies...
If you start watching ...and your a newbie ...and never really know things about their culture, etc some things it really hard to get...
And I was one of those... :D, I mean really influenced by USA and European series or movies ...
But if you watch closely, and if your are open minded ...and watch some dramas you will get some off why they are doing it, or they may not be a reason ...but defiantly they should not chance ...cause that is what makes a difference between Asian & western movies and sires ...

Well I'm already Asian, but I'm curious about Japanese and Korean things that happen in Dramas.

1) Why is there always a terminal illness happening in every drama?
2) Why Koreans say aja aja or fighting.
3) And the things I'm more curious about is the so many awkward moments they have in dramas haha.
4) Anddd why many Japanese dudes look like girls, and sometimes dress that way.

1. Do all Koreans say aja aja?
2. Do all Taiwanese say ayo?
3.What do these two mean?
or
4. Are they just a term of exprection?
5. Why do they make the celebs really pale (expecially the Japanese)?
6. Shouldn't you embrace your skin colour? to go wit that 5th one ^^
7. Why are the Taiwanese Dramas over-exaggerated (I'm a big fan tho)
8. Can Philippines please stop making remakes?! (Eventhough I'm pinoy, I'm really pissed)

i'm curious to many asian movie or even series....
why they have to take off the cell phone battery while they can easily just turn it off...
if they don't want to talk to the person whose calling them,.,,...

That is an excellent question. I have no idea. I always thought it was for the viewers so they could show that they really really really don't want to pick up.

Yeah, I think that's true for any type of asian, middle eastern, and probably a lot of other cultures. The focus isn't so much on individual independence, but on the strength and honor of the family and a child's future family.

I wanna know why the girls don't hug back when the guy is hugging them... Hate it when they just stand there!

I wanna know why the guys always have to stand so close to eachother when the're mad/fighting? It looks like they're gonna kiss

I wanna know how the male actors can be so hot and the female actors be so beautiful... HOW IS IT POSSIBLE? THEY ARE NOT HUMAN!

As for why the girls don't hug back, I think it's a show of innocence in respect to the culture. I pretty sure PDA is unusual and even hugs or kisses on the cheek that seem natural in other cultures is something that's considered pretty much the same as majorly making out.
