Because i really like yuri but i'm Straight!
and i want to be able to tell people that i do like it but i'm scared they'll think i'm bi or lez
(not that there's anything wrong with that but like yea...)

well, i would say that there's nothing wrong with it... but it may be responsible for me liking girls and being overly critical of boys. i mean, no boy in real life is ever going to be as sensitive and beautiful as a yaoi boy, and even if they are, they're not going to like being with a girl.

as far as yuri goes, well, it give bi curious girls something to have in common, to experiment with, as well as plenty of case-scenarios and excuses to mask it if you're more comfortable in the closet. over the past few years, i've developed a pretty twisted sensibility in regards to sex, and i really can't claim that it had nothing to do with yuri and yaoi. i'm not attracted to manly men, but at the same time, girly boys are just kinda... not straight enough. some girls who are blatant lesbians likewise turn me off. no offense to the butch girls out there, but it's kinda like having sex with a guy that has no penis.

finding anime ideals in real people isn't healthy, i'm sure, but it does lead for interesting, if not downright enjoyable relationships. the only thing that annoys me is that there's not many cute goths in america. i don't mean like they're ugly, but they don't have that "cuteness" that the loligoths of japan do, and i feel bad about that, since i hate loli stuff. i kinda have a feeling that even if i did find a loligoth girlfriend in japan, it still wouldn't be what i'm looking for.

Really it depends on your gender. For a girl to like Yuri or Yaoi its fine. Guys on the other hand cant like Yaoi without being labeled gay, and from a statistical and psychological standpoint its more or less correct. Most straight guys don't like the male form. Personally I find the male form to be repulsive, and to guys kissing is equally repulsive. If a guy likes yaoi, there is a high probability that he is gay or bi.

TL:DR version- girls can watch what they want. Guys typically will only like yuri if their straight.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

As for my opinion, while I may not seek out yaoi or yuri, I can appreciate it when a friend suggests one. I don't think there's anything wrong about liking it, considering it doesn't harm anyone. I don't judge people because they like to dance and I don't, so why should I care about their preferences regarding yaoi and yuri?

eeesh, a horrible thought just came to me. i hope it doesn't start a flame war, but here goes...

is yaoi and yuri corrupting us?

I don't think it is, really. While it's taboo that teenagers should be reading and watching what appears to be smut, I think that fans of yaoi and yuri have more ethics and more heart than the rest of the youth of america, who are obsessed with My Sweet 16 on MTV. (Which is evil incarnate!)

Furthermore, I've noticed that even the sexually active fans of yaoi and yuri are NOWHERE near as promiscuous as the rest of the mainstream youth of today. I mean, even the most depraved yaoi fangirl brandishing a paddle at a con still has some composure at the end of the day. She/he may read about it, but I don't have any friends that had had an orgy or anything like that... I hope.

As people have said earlier in the thread, it all depends on whether you think that being homosexual is evil or not. The more accurate question is: Are displays of sexual promiscuity of any kind corrupting us? Even with this question it depends on whether you believe sex is evil or not.

It doesn't matter. What I don't get why other people make such a big fuss of other people like? Why should others care anyway?

hahaahaa, no i don't think sex is evil. i think that the frat boys that are after my body just for sex, well, yeah, they're kinda evil, cos they don't want to cuddle and watch Ouran afterwards. and orgies, ew. that's just decadence. homosexuality can at least claim population control as a "natural" excuse. five people in a sweaty ball is too "fall of the roman empire" for me.

and, yeah, i think there's a sort of distinction between yuri/yaoi style promiscuity and what we see on American TV.

90% of the kids out there see the trash we have on the states, whereas the other nerdy 10% of us has trash from japan. so because we're smaller, we have a camaraderie that the rest of the perverts don't have. so in a sense, that makes us the cool perverts. and as such, i feel that in the long run, yuri and yaoi fans are less trashy than the other perverts.

It's all good. If it's an anime/manga that's good then yay. XD

Can't really be much more that ecchi anyway. Also all animes have fan service. It's like an unwritten law of Japanese people.

^^ YAOI FTW >///< I love yaoi, but that would make sense because most girls do. But there's nothing wrong, I'm obsessed with yaoi now but I used to have a HUGE phase over yuri, but there's nothing wrong with it, because anime is fantasy and real life is reality. They're complete opposites, so who you like in real life doesn't affect what type of relationships you like ^^
