Wow, been busy and such to do new threads but here I am! I've talked about the new releases before Spring started but I thought I'd share you my picks I'm following so far and then open up to hear from YOU of what anime you're keeping an eye on since the Spring releases started in April. Also feel free to add others releasing in May/June such as Devil May Cry. Enjoy!

NEW SPRING ANIME (WARNING:MINOR SPOILERS OF THE FIRST EPS.)

Quicklist by my ranks with shortform names:

1. El Cazador

2. Darker Than Black

3. Hayate the Combat Butler

4. Tengen Toppa

5. Romeo X Juliet

6. Sakura Wars: NY

7. Idolmaster Xenoglossia

8. Monster Princess

9. Kaze no Stigma

10. Lovely Complex

11. Murder Princess

12. Hitohira

13. Lucky Star

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Ranked #4) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tengen_Toppa_Gurren_Lagann

Now mecha is not at the top of my favorite genre list but I like to still mix up my viewing variety. I'm glad since as far as mecha series alone there are tons coming out again, and so far none with the name Gundam in the title (yet, the Gundam Seed movie comes out this year). This one caught my eye because not only is it a comedy about a little guy named Simon wanting to break out of the underground world he lives in with good friend Kamina to help his people (even if reluctant at times), this series has such an old-school look and feel to it to a more Giant Robot time. The main mechs include a head with lots of drills and merging has, well a unique spin to it. Kamina is easily my favorite new character of all the new anime I've watched so far (I add him to Manabi and Mei from the aforementioned Manabi Straight for this category too) for being a crazy, gun-ho, creative nut and fighter (and voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi, who voices many characters including the contrasting funny sidekick and serious fighter Asano Keigo/Shūhei Hisagi on Bleach) . He's so over the top that many fans of the show already like him more than protagonist Simon and their above ground dwelling rebellion friends Yoko and Leeron (ironically another over the top flamboyant character voiced by Masaya Onosaka who also is now on Bleach as vizard Shinji Hirako). This is truly one of my pleasant surprises of the season.

Hitohira (Ranked #14) http://www.anime-source.com/banzai/modules.php?name=Anime&rop=showcontent&id=1874

This one is still not available in subs past episode one but I felt it's worth a mention if you're looking for an anime that's a slice of life comedy, but light and dramatic. It's about a drama research club as they try to get recruits, while the actual drama club works out its own daily issues. Worth a look if you like the stage, and considering Literature sources that aren't mangas are big again too, why not a touch of the theatre too?

Hayate No Gotoku-Hayate the Combat Butler (Ranked #3)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayate_the_combat_butler

If you're a spoof fan this is the over-the-top spoof of this season. Just like past silly comedies like Excel Saga and Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu, this one not only delves into the pop culture around the world BUT it simply breaks the fourth wall and jumps right at you. Hayate is the new worst luck in the world protagonist when his parents run away and run up debt with the Yakuza. Even though he's a nice (and indestructible street fighter) guy, he decides to kidnap Nagi who is the only heir to the Sanzenin fortune. She makes the mistake of thinking he wants to profess love to him and thanks to the encouragement of her maid Maria, he instead saves her from another kidnapper and is hired as her combat butler. I can't make this up as you get a talking tiger (but keep that a secret as he says), Santa, and enough bleeped out spoofs, brand names and violence, where a little guy with a sign comes up often to block it:

"As a result of being backed by TV Tokyo, the anime has had several elements censored or toned down. Examples include Hayate's mother's gambling addiction being referred to as "Investing (money, in the given case, Hayate's paycheck) in her dream" and Hayate merely being given to "nice men" for work rather than to the Yakuza for his organs. Characters in the show make reference to the fact that they apparently cannot show the offending material and that the show is "fighting the broadcast code".

There is some censorship that is intended as a joke as in any given instance of Hayate bleeding being censored by a sign reading "can't show this". The anime like the manga has references to other anime, and some original references."

So think if our cartoons rebelled in a way only shows like the Daily Show does. Simply a laugh to watch.

Idolmaster Xenoglossia (Ranked #7) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idolmaster_Xenoglossia

From the creators of Mai-Hime it's another girl cast but this time as mecha pilots who are hired to ride Idols to space to shoot down asteroids that threaten the Earth (see you don't need Bruce Willis and Aerosmith riding rockets to space to do this!). I like the main protagonist Haruka and her friendship with the quieter Yukiho (voiced by Yui Horie who is popular for many characters such as Naru from Love Hina and Manabi in Manabi Straight). Another mecha anime series that caught my eye for being like my next choice, an older favorite and a popular choice for gals in mechas. Both are ironically originally video games too to start.

Sakura Wars: New York, NY (Ranked #6) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakura_Wars

This is a long going series that I follow when I can. I also saw the Paris series on CR so I will get around to watching that too. This one will take a bit to get the whole story together so do try the link. This one is not as good as the original cast but has its perks, and the main protagonist male, since they are actresses by daylight, crossdresses too to give something different. =) Crossplay! You also get gals (and one guy) in steam powered mechs fighting an evil from Egypt. Yeah, I thought Yugioh oddly too, but this series does keep things light and fun. Sadly the next parts won't come until the summer time.

Murder Princess (Ranked #11) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_Princess

One of two Princess series I chose to watch (though sadly this one is also short and will come out slowly) and it's funny in a grotesque way. Evil scientist comes back for revenge with monsters and cute yet deadly android girls (don't you hate it if a little 10 year old punches your guts out to death?). The princess runs and gets saved by a female bounty hunter...and then plunge to their near death. Apparently saved by monster-looking bounty hunter buddies doesn't stop a body swap! Hilarity and blood battles ensue. Yeah, just good for silliness alone.

El Cazador de la Bruja (Ranked #1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Cazador_de_la_Bruja

Ok some of my own bias comes into play here. Beetrain made a trilogy for the gals with guns genre. The first and one of the most underrated animes, Noir, was the first. Madlax came but wasn't as good and got criticism for being a not so great attempt to recreate the mood of Noir, but I think El Cazador has it and then its own touch. The bounty hunter Nadie is given the refugee Ellis who seems to have powers but is also very naive of the world. You get Mexican music and western vibes watching this series instead of the film noir and European look of Noir. A bounty hunter with a little girl, gay bounty hunters, a group monitoring Ellis and a creepy possible brother too for Ellis watching over her. I've so fallen in love with this series and it doesn't need to be a clone at all as it mixes all sorts of genres to make its own.

Darker than Black (Ranked #2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darker_than_Black

I thought it would be real tough to find another dark/mysterious series like current top fav Death Note. This show has potential from the basic plotline alone. Think about a future Tokyo with people called Contractors who gain powers like telekinesis but it cost them. Add suspense, robotic like dolls, plagues, and you get this series. Hei/Li is a great protagonist/anti-hero who reminds me of a mix between Robin from Witch Hunter Robin and Spike from Cowboy Bebop. Cool but plays it naively. I need to see more episodes to gage his supporting cast but so far the story alone gives so many twists like Death note but gives us a more edgy, action series to follow. Not my favorite genre but it's done so well like Death note I have to come back for more.

Lucky Star (Ranked #13) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Star_%28manga%29

This is another series I'm watching but I got mixed feelings about it. While the aforementioned series tend to do justice to their genres while adding something to it, this one doesn't do it too well as of yet. It's slice of life comedy about girls in school but a much lighter comedy than Azumanga Daioh and not as mature as High School Girls. They take topics like food and make long talks on it, and can go on tangents. It's like chatting or your own school life depending on what you go and talk about. The flow is tricky and then there's the small Channel feature with a cute gal and her co-host that goes from show to behind the scenes-esque. The karaoke ending is cute though with it always changing.

Romeo X Juliet (Ranked #5) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeo_X_Juliet

Now this was heavily hyped by GONZO as being like a redone telling of the Shakespeare piece like the movie that starred Leo Dicaprio and Claire Danes (Whom I miss as a big star). Maybe not quite as you'd envision it, with the Montagues more villainous, pegasus horses for transportation and Juliet becoming the male hero of the city (wow, more crossplay again, neat) in disguise until she meets Romeo. A nice added touch is the playwright William to maybe tell the tale? (Voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue, one of the few experienced VAs and he's Kakashi's voice from Naruto, neat!) Even though maybe not as big as the hype, don't let that scare you away from trying this out.

Kaibutsu Oujo-Monster Princess (Ranked #8) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_princess

The other princess series, and you know what? The kickass princesses won't only be in Shrek 3 but are also sprouting all over anime. Hime is a princess that has servants like a little girl android (like Murder Princess) and people she can bring back to life. Oh and she fights with everything from swords to chainsaws. Hiro is the unlucky chap who got resurrected as one servant and is a human sacrifice with temporary immortality. Girls are ruling, guys are suffering. So lesson is gals, get your own anime series!

Kaze no Stigma (Ranked #9) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaze_no_stigma

Well this might seem like an rehashed addition to the shonen action series with a feel like Scryed with some elements from everything from American series Avatar the Last Airbender to animes like Gatekeepers or Get Backers or even recently done Busou Renkin for that fight with powers appeal, and it also borrows from Darker Than Black as far Contractors, but not much is known yet what is given in return for the elemental powers of the users of this series. Kazuma is an outcast from the fire clan that returns at a time of difficulty as someone is killing his family and clan members. And the person is a Wind user, just like he decided to become when he got beat by the young sword wielding school girl Ayano. Yes it sounds cliché but execution seems decently done so far. Worth at least a look.

Lovely Complex (Ranked #10) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovely_Complex

OK, last one of what I've watched, but I need to see more too as this romantic comedy has been a live movie before and a long time manga. Risa is really tall for a typical girl, Otani is very short basketball player and this boy and girl couple are considered a comedy duo for their height differential and for always bickering. Then one day they decide to help each other find a date, and then find out more about each other and their friends. This series has ptential to be popular.

For stuff not on trigunkwan's list I suggest;

Bokura no:15 kids have to pilot a giant mecha and fight other mecha, but unlike normal mecha shows your shown the consequence of the fights (earthquakes, people dying etc).
Looks to be pretty dark plus i herd the manga was good. Watch more than just the first episode though.

Claymore: Half-Yoma, Half-Human (yoma is a demon) killing Yoma under the orders of some organization.
Unfortunately not as good as I thought it was going to be, but still entertaining.

Heroic Age: About 4 tribes (races) answering the call of the golden tribe and launching off into space (one of them being humans). Then far in the future the humans are in trouble and fin a boy called Eiji who might save them.
Very nice space mecha anime. If you like fights in space with mecha, you'll love this.

Moonlight Mile: Haven't actually got round to watching this yet, even though I've downloaded 5 episodes. I've been told it's a lot like Planetes so if you liked that you'll probably like this.

Seto no Hanayome: A mermaid saves a guy who's drowning in the ocean only for him to discover that she's the daughter of an under water Yakuza family.
Surprisingly very funny, once you've gotten past the first 4/5 minutes.

Seirei no Moribito: A female guard is given the task of protecting a prince who's own father wants him dead.
One of the better animes this season (so far), go watch it.

Sola: About a guy who loves to look at and take pictures of the sky meets a girl who is kicking a can machine.
So far i likes it, but its probably not for everyone.

The other shows im watching that have already been mentioned:
Darker than Black, Hayate the Combat Butler, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Romeo X Juliet, Murder Princess.

Out of all the series Darker than Black is definatley my favorite. It reminds me of ghost in the shell, but with psychics instead of technology. Just like death note I can never wait to see the next episode >.<

i think this season will see plenty of good anime. I've already started watching most of the new animes and exciting they are indeed. I think Seirei no moribito, nanoha strikers, claymore, murder princess, romeoxjuliet, idolmaster and wellber no monogatari are definetly worth watching. El cazador was alright but there were some awkward moments though.

There are only three new shows that I've been watching: Darker Than BLACK, Hayate no Gotoku, & Romeo x Juliet.

In the Darker Than BLACK thread, I mentioned that, while the story sounds interesting, the only reason I really decided to watch it was because my favorite seiyuu does Hei's voice. It's an ok-ish show; definitely not my favorite, but intriguing enough that I'll be sticking around for more. :/ It starts off pretty slow, though.

Hayate is absolutely hysterical. I love all the references to other shows. I actually had been planning on reading the manga, but I still haven't gotten around to it. I hear that not all of the jokes in the anime are in the manga, though.

Romeo X Juliet is, hands-down, the greatest series this season. In the RXJ thread, a ton of people ranted about how the story's been done over & over and they're sick of it, but the anime is nothing like the play [which I hated].

Animes that I found promising so far...

Hayate no Gotoku (comedy)
Claymore (action)
Romeo X Juliet (romance/action)

And...Just because I love sports animes, I'm watching OverDrive.
I haven't seen all of the new anime, but out of the ones I've seen, the ones I listed seemed like they'd be a good series. Some of the other series were good, but they're similar to past shows, or the plot seems like it won't be that good later on, so I didn't list them.

Edit: (some new anime released after this thread was made)

Another sports anime! A baseball one called 'Ookiku Furikabutte'. Although the main characters attitude gets a bit annoying, it looks entertaining.

I've been wanting to watch that, but can't find it anywhere. The last time I checked, it wasn't here. Are you watching it on another site or are you downloading it?

Edit: nevermind. Apparently it is here.

oh no one has mentioned Les miserables shoujo cosette which is quite good sweet but sad and for all those mecha addicts Kishin Taisen gigantic formula is also worth a watch same makers of kamichu so expect hugely drawn eyes and intense facial expressions, the robots resemble gundam though.

1. Claymore
2. Serei no Moribito

There are a lot more but it seems that Spring series seems to beat almost all the past anime shows right now. Well, that is my opnion anyway.

Hayate ^^;; I like the manga too

Not among the listed, I am anticipating these as well: Saiunkoku Monogatari (Season 2) and Higurashi (Season 2 --> this will be out later this year I think)... I think there's gonna be a Zero no Tsukaima(sp?) second season out soon...
