I had some rootbeer today
It’s tender taste dancing on my tongue
As the cold liquid slips down my throat
Bubbling deep in my esophagus
Leaving a lasting impression on my taste buds
A memory of childhood
Sipping a cup of the sugar filled liquor
Numbing the senses as it absorbed the mind
Making us run and dance and play
Our parents laughing rolling their eyes
As they watch the magic of this spirit filled drink
Take it’s toll, later crashing
Lying in the grass
Staring as the clouds go by
Opening my eyes I take another sip
Feeling the tender taste dancing on my tongue
I’m ready for another trip.
