Ok so I am reading the news at Anime News Network, that on top of Viz streaming english subbed naruto shippuden a week after it's japanese airing, that TV Tokyo was also going to be streaming it here on CR an hour after it's release.

However reading further into the article, I read this...
"On January 8, Crunchyroll will stop accepting user-submitted videos and other content from individuals, and only host videos approved by copyright holders. Gonzo and Toei Animation are two other major Japanese copyright holders of anime that decided to stream on Crunchyroll. ANN interviewed Crunchyroll founder Vu Nguyen in March"

Now this may not be news to some people, as march was 8 months ago, however it is news to me, and I am not able to find anything else about this incoming change.

So what is going to happen with the user-submitted content already here ? Will it remain ? Other parts of the news article also mentioned something about paid monthly subscribers. (particularly about how the episodes were only going to be available to the paid subscribers)

Will there also be more companies joining crunchyroll after this transition ? Will the current companies here add more series ? Will Crunchyroll be providing more services if it is going to become a paid service ?

There is a lot of things that would be great to know. Something like an FAQ sticky about the upcoming changes I am sure would be appreciated by all.

These are indeed old news, but I ask now. If that was the case, how come there is much anime here that is not precisely authorized by the companies only?

Well it seems the anime companies joined the tide instead of fighting against it. Because they have always been benefited by the fansubs. Although many people, who I am well aware that have nothing to do with anime companies but only in despite of their personal opinions, say the otherwise. Crunchyroll is the medium and the central point of the line with one side where the anime studios, and the other side with the fansubs.

So basically CR is where both sides co-exist, or at least can be taken as an example of such situation. I am telling you that nothing is going to happen with Crunchyroll in the near future that will affect anime in a good, or bad way. But at a long-term it will be beneficial for the anime industry and fansubs as well.

Hey OP, If you finished reading the article yourself you would know the answer to your question. Crunchyroll will host streaming for Naruto, Gintama etc. and stop accepting fansubs.

I already realized that they were going to be streaming naruto, and whatever else CR's current partnerships are doing. However, something to point out, is that part where it says "update" means it wasn't originally there. That signifies that it is a follow up to the article. But there is far more to it than just that. Come January 8, crunchyroll is going to become and entirely new infrastructure, but there are no specific details.

There is also a lot more to crunchyroll than just anime. Take a look at the bar up top. Drama, Game, Music, Car, Etc. There was no mention of what will happen to this content.

There also isn't any mention on whats going to happen with membership. Will old member ships remain, will we have to make new ones ? Whats up with this paid membership plan thing ? Will members still have their myspace like profile option ? Seems like that should be a pretty big issue for a lot of people.

Anyways, what I am trying to say is that there is a lot going on here, and it would be cool if we could know exactly what it all is. Don't start trolling thinking this is a "omfg wtf, CR is going to die !" thread. I am trying to ask legitimate questions for the inquiring mind.

well i guess this is ok but if they start making us pay i probably wont be on here i dont watch alot of anime(plus there is always torrents) but i watch dramas soo i would be right at mysoju.com if that happens...but it seems like a good plan though the companies can finally do the smart thing and make money off of this

Membership will remain since it was mentioned in the article how paying user(Star members) will be the first to view the streams and non-payers later. Fansubs would only affect the anime and drama part of CR. Shinji will make an announcement as he always does.

Dam it looks like shit just hit the Fan. Be ready everybody.

I knew this type of buisness modell would come sooner or latter. Might as well be latter if you ask me but oh well. I will miss the old fan sub model it will over time be fased out . But were can I get some stocks of crunchyroll this just might work . This dose explain why CR bought the rights to some animes.

That was my respons to hereing it erlyer today.

Actually this is a good step for CR.. If your an anime FAN you must support this kind of move and not whining like a 6 year old kiddies.. Also I bet you all have watched almost all the animes here in CR so theres no point whining about user uploaded animes.. Who knows the maker itself will contact shinji and makes a partnership with them.. Then you watching legally and happily.. Also your supporting the makers of the anime.. Not just a pirate anime FAN your not luffy
