I loved the manga, and FoTNS is a legend. Kenshiro rocks, did anyone see the "You are already dead" reference in Detroit Metal City? (the scene where Krauser is appearing in the movie?) :P

Hokuto No Ken is my favorite series of all time. The series was so popular that it had it's own convention. It's really hard to quantify how popular this is so it's an early 80's series. And as a sign of a legendary series there are always things coming out for it. People who aren't fans may not notice but there have always been consistent items being released for many years. Its influence is huge.

As Kentaro Miura, creator of the legendary adult manga Berserk says the series heavily influenced him and that he "is a child of Hokuto No Ken (Fist of the North Star)." Isidro is basically Batt from HNK. Both are thieves, kids, comic relief.

What's interesting is that HNK in this day and age doesn't fit the Shonen Jump type of story. This is the age of the younger main character like Naruto, One Piece. If HNK came out today it would probably be allowed to be more adult than it originally was and while it is adult in several ways who knows how hard it would push the envelope if it weren't a Shonen Jump series (the writer Sho Fumimura aka Buronson wrote the classic and uber influential SANCTUARY so he knows how to do adult stories). The influence of HNK is huge; it's big everywhere else in the world except the United States (like Saint Seiya) where it was advertised by Manga Entertainment as nothing more than a splatter fest.

I can see how it would be hard for U.S. fans to gauge how significant that series is.

The manga is incredible. The show is good at best very good but the filler the show has is very slow and things are dragged out too much. If the TV show were like the manga the series wouldn't have 152 episodes (it would have much less than that).

I love Fist of the North Star. Yeah, sure, it doesn't have that glossy, bright color look that many animes have today, and it's art style is somewhat antique, but the story and overall animation is awesome. Plus, Ken's North Star moves are frikkin AWESOME. I wish I could paralyze someone with one finger.

Well..... the North Star setting is rather interesting it self, but everything thing else sucks so far. I really don't mind old fashion art work. This is the old fashion good guy vs. bad guy so i really don't mind, but the story so far going rather slow to pick up the story so i've lost all interest in it. I've think the anime "Desert Punk" is better than this, beside the fact of that "Golden Boy" character needs.

It makes me want to do this to the anime (right to the left).

HnK is THE best anime ever, but I'm probably biased towards older styles, anyway (Tezuka, Nagai, Kurumada, Araki).
Naruto fans should look at HnK as the starting series for their ridiculous moves that only a fan of their respective series could even hope to understand (Pressure points and different styles for Fist, Hokkage stuff/Gates-of-whatever XD for Naruto). The point in bold is to tell people that unless you actually watch the show, you're gonna have a hard time bashing/comparing it, like I do.
