if you are continuously playing games, and not just to kill boredom, then your a gamer...
its like having a job, you actually need to make it a part of your life...

*if you are continuously playing games without attending to your hygiene, then your a sick one ...
**if you are continuously playing games without attending to your hygiene 24/7, then you are LITERALLY a sick one... and will die soon enough

Someone who knows their way around a controler, can figure out at least the basics of how to play a game within 5mins of gameplay and who didn't just jump on the bandwagon with the wii.

Hmm well it is hard to say what makes a gamer a gamer. For me it is a generic appreciation for all video games. What do I mean by that? Well the simplest case would be someone who has games from every genere of game... minus like preschool and educational games.. to a degree. All people find a Genre they really like which is fine. But the question is, if you look at your collection... or for most people the games you once owned, can you say have owned like 2 or 3 of every genre available? That is one thing I use to define gamers.

Second I would say does the gamer apperciate all levels of gaming, technology wise? Meaning if I pull out an Atari 2600 game and say it is a good game will someone at least pop it in and play it? Or will they brush it off s worthless because the technology is out dated?

Finally, they must have a penis because lets face it girl gamers are a myth perpetrated by the government to get males to stop playing video games.

A gamer, to me, is just someone with basic knowledge of a couple major games and someone who enjoys playing games. If you want a hardcore gamer, that would be my brother - he's played every game he owns (most of which are RPG's) at LEAST twice (he has at least 100), and there are several instances in which he tells me not only where to find a treasure chest but what's inside it. o_O

I honestly don't like that you said girl gamers don't exist. I know a few of them, ones with all the criteria you mentioned, and one of them is one of my best friends. Granted, we don't have as many as the opposite genre, but calling it a myth is taking it way too far.

Now now now this is not the place for me to defend my beliefs on the existence of female gamers. I will stand by the fact that female gamers do not exist. But you have fallen into the web, so it is a lost cause to convince you otherwise.

Altho no1 could tell by looking @ me, gaming is a part ov my life! XD RPG's (good ones) are my favorite and I know I couldn't live without them. [which is probably the main reason of some of my crappy grades]
