I'm an American and I will say it right out that we do not do boy bands well, for some reason. Backstreet Boys and N'Sync were good in their time (and apparentlyNew Kids on the Block are coming back) but the reaction to them is 'ok' at best.

Not nearly as spontaneous and sometimes downright fanatical as the response to DBSK, Big Bang, SHINee, NEWS, KAT-TUN, Kanjani8, Arashi, Shinhwa (did I spell that right?) Fahrenheit, and other modern boy bands (those are the ones i am famaliar with).

So, I know that there are a lot of Europeans (and for that matter I don't know too much about European boy bands either) and Asians on CR and I was wondering what in your opinion are we doing wrong? lol.

Also, if you want to throw out some names of boy bands you like that other people might not know of, feel free.

I for one find them (DBSK, Big Bang, ext.) hotter. Pure and simple. Oh, and they can sing, most of them.

Yeah, I agree. Pop is almost dead in America right now, it was only popular in the late 90's early 2000's. But even so, Asian Pop is much better than American pop music.

hmmm not too sure, but maybe they rather be a soloist than rather being in a group.

It could just be the culture. Also recent Kpop songs are really catchy and upbeat. I find some songs stuck in my head sometimes, despite how much I may hate it.

Also it could be the image of the artists themselves. When you think about pop celebrities like the ones you mentioned, there's so much gossip and scandle everywhere. With Kpop artists, it's not as much. And they sometimes appear on show programs and their personalities on these programs make them much more human and on our own level.

There are so many Asian show programs with celebrity guests hosted by celebrities that are so funny and entertaining. People don't just relate pop music with these artists, but everything else too because many of them appear in shows or do acting on the side and whatnot.

Well I guess it’s because they’re just more well rounded as artists because in korea or japan for those boy bands or whatever else, you actually have to go through years of training before debut, so the amount of skill at being a performer is generally more developed and .. better : P verses the americans who gives artists more freedom to do what they want and a lot of time what they want isn’t necessarily .. the best thing to do. Such as doing retarded stuff in public (shaving head bald) and making crappy music & not wanting to spend years of their life training to be a better performer. And that shows in live performances where they sound quite.. crappy. Popular American musicians these days are all based on catchy music and not much talent under the songs. Basicly, in America, all you need is a catchy song, and you’ll be famous & worshipped by a bunch of idiots. While in asian countries their companies really do have a lot of control over them, which works out in their favor in this case because it forces them to train and achieve (and sometimes overwork), but in the end, asian musicians turn out a whole another level higher than American musicians where talent and a good public image is concerned.

Also, I think there are several Korean singers who have really unique voices. The ones I can think off the top of my head are Kim Jong Kook (very high pitched for a man) and Hyun Young (her voice is high pitched too but it's just out of the ordinary).
Also there's Haha, and one of his songs literally translates into "That's Right, I Can't Sing".

I can't really think of many American voices that stand out above the rest, but then again, I'm not as familiar with it.

american bands are usually formed by themselves and then get discovered, besides basic voice training, there isn't much too it. now asian boy bands are literally "bred" they are taken from auditions and trained until they : are HOT, can dance, can sing, has "charisma" lmaoo. but anyways i def prefer asian boy bands, they are ALWAYS hot (well most of the time, depending on ur taste) and american bands has...a few above average guys , nothing more

How do I say this....Asian boy bands have more of a "clean" image I guess? Well more than Americans anyways.
I think that's why I stopped paying attention to American music.
I hate it when you find a celebrity you like and then they have some kind of scandal that just destroys their whole image and you find yourself not liking them any more then, you find a different musician of interest and the same thing happens it's like a never ending cycle.
Oh well....I only listen to Asian music anyways.
