this anime really makes me cry . The story shows the process of moving on, letting go of the past to make yourself grow. I know forgetting something you really treasure is a very painful process but destroying your life(isolating yourself from reality, hinders your growth as a person) is not that reasonable... it shows that life goes on...cherish every experience and learn from it....and learn to let go...

i don't know what to say, there things i want to say but it wouldn't make any sense, when i was typing this up i spent like 15 minutes trying to figure out how i felt about this ending, a movie will not give you the same feeling as an anime movie can, like this movie can. This movie didn't really give me the crying feeling, as i type this i still have mix feelings about it. I'm either thinking maybe it was the best for those two or damn they should've atlease met. I don't know man, i hate this feeling... i probably won't watch an anime for a couple hours...

To me, it was like a painful reminder that happy endings hardly happen like they do in movies.

I too think it was a message saying how not to live. To shut people and the present out while you cling to the past, which at this point is like a dream. Clinging tightly to a dream while not actively pursuing it will take you nowhere and you'll end up wasting your life away because you won't take action.

Personally I thought the ending was bittersweet. Sure the pair never did see each other again, but technically they did see the cherry blossoms together again and I like to think that Takaki was finally able to get on with his life after that moment. Which is good for him as he was just living day to day and didn't seem to be enjoying life, but it's still sad the two didn't get in contact again or even see each other.

So yeah, bittersweet, just the way life always is.

So you went with my interpretation. I really think that at the end he moved on, but it was a little late for that. He'd already wasted a good part of his life longing for someone he couldn't get. A sad tale indeed.

^yea.. he's really late.. but at least he already moved on.. so its still quite a happy ending for me 'coz there are chances that they can meet again.

i don't think it's about moving on.. it's about trying to accept that some things are not meant to be..

Too bad Shinkai loves sad endings. Voices of a Distant Star was also very sad. More sad than 5cm/s. Place Promised was more positive though.

i read the manag *sob sob* ˇˇ he really is a master in sad endings!!...but from one poin he shows that life is made of sad endings too..not like in movies when EVRYTHING must end happy ever after!!

but.........don't you think that mabe the petal are like a call for him to get out of the room and to take a walkt to that place?...or did ever crosses your mind a question like this? *or is just me..who has this silly question passing thru!!* ^^

I think the petal was big. He was reminded of when life was beautiful, and that called him to the cherry blossoms.
