You know,I think, given the circumstances they're both in,the ending was already as good as it could ever get.Right up till the very end,Takaki still held on to the memory of Akari, and chose to remain in the past, shutting himself out of the present at the same time.I don't blame him for that,he probably wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he let himself forget about Akari, since the very idea would suggest that he betrayed Akari.

I don't think that he should ever ever forget about Akari though, just that he shouldn't let that memory affect him the way it did.For us all who are in this situation,we should just accept things as they come and live with who we are and what happened in the past. This way,the past would become a beautiful memory to be treasured instead. And the fact that the two of them never got the chance to meet with each other, that was probably for the best,in both cases. After all, even if they were reunited, things wouldn't just resolve itself. They've both played important parts in each other's life and left a huge impact on each other,a difference which both of them will be grateful for as they move on with their respective lives.

The last chapter was especially touching for me though, especially when the two of them passed each other by at the train track. And the song 'One more time, one more chance' really summed up the entire situation and made everything seem more poignant and bittersweet.

As viewers we find pleasure in these illusions. I believe Shinkai in 5cm/s reveal a show that break through our unrealistic hopes in a fantasized world. The movie was probably sad because it ended up less beautiful. But is it? I personally think that we feel sad because it reminds us how our live are exactly like that. Things do not end up smoothly as movies tend to.

This movies has lots of themes which many touched on but this just another perspective.

It was very realistic and a very sad ending. I was kinda frustrated with Takaki, becauase he didn't like contact Akira anytime, when he had all that time to keep in touch with her, and that he just stood there and didn't chase after her after the trains passed. Since he lost contact with her, it practically turned his life upside down, and he's unhappy while Akira is getting married off to some guy. When they were both at the train tracks, Akira may have left first, because she has finally let go, moved on with her life, while Takaki wasn't ready to let go yet. I think that they were both lost in their memories of that time long ago, and knew that they could never return to that time.

This movie was a great movie, awesome detailing in the scenery & background, a great, but sad story, makes you question about what the movie really is all about.

I didn't like the ending, since Takagi somehow became a loner=[
