Does this mean that its true that starting Jan. 8 CR would not be accepting Fan subbed animes? So the animes that would be available on CR starting Jan 8 are limited to the partners of CR? Or CR would still be accepting fan subbed anime but not all countries would be able to watch it? Please Someone tell me This is correct. Starting January 8 all fansubs will be removed from the site and no more will be accepted. Only content provided by CR partners will be available on the site. Even then, the ones that are still airing, people will need to be a star member to view them before they become available a week after the air date. That's really pointless because you can view them for free from the fansubs before the 1 week period hence negating any need to pay for a star membership. Does that mean we can still watch it 1 week after the airing even if we aren't star members? Or we have to be star members to watch everything on crunchyroll? U can find fansubbs on veoh.com, youtube.com, megavideo.com. Simple. you dont have to wait one week just to watch it on Crunchy |

Starting Jan 8th, Crunchyroll will stream the latest episodes of Naruto Shippuden and Gintama, with 3 other works yet to be named, subtitled into English. The streaming will be available to anyone around the world (except within Japan) for a monthly subscription fee, and then one week later they will be made available through free, ad supported streaming. At the same time, Crunchyroll has agreed to remove all user-uploaded content on the site and only stream video which they have explicit distribution contracts with the content providers for. Currently Crunchyroll has deals with Toei Animation, Gonzo (which was revealed to have a 20% stake in Crunchyroll in recent financial reports), and a few other smaller content providers. Also announced today, Viz Media will make these episodes of Naruto Shippuden available on their own website (as well as Hulu and Joost) the same time that Crunchyroll releases the episodes for free streaming, one week after airing. Viz will also make the already aired episodes of Shippuden available, eight per week, until every episode that has been aired in Japan is completely available for streaming from their site. Dubbing for this Naruto season has already been started, however the future of the show’s broadcast on Cartoon Network is somewhat in doubt since the cancellation of Toonami. This announcement of Crunchyroll’s intent to completely remove all user uploaded content from their website, of which almost all is fansubbed anime, has been met with shock and surprise by many of Crunchyroll’s users. It remains to be seen whether Crunchyroll can maintain its userbase when it no longer offers a huge library of fansubbed anime for streaming, and whether it can turn a monthly subscription model, plus ad supported streaming one week after airing, into a viable business plan. This move was not unexpected however, since most content providers in Japan are extremely wary of dealing with a company whose business model is founded on the illegal distribution of copyrighted video files. . @Ruyyna: It clearly says that all user uploaded content will be removed and banned and only official videos would be allowed to remain. No companies would really want to associate themselves with a site that would illegal content, especially of their own products as it would conflict with their copyrights as well as legal rights. If these companies were to allow illegal piracy content of their own material to be uploaded while also supplying their versions of their material, it would seriously affect their potential future and current legal rights and actions. If they were to allow piracy material to be hosted and if they were to work along said piracy site it would literally kill any chances they might have of winning any lawsuits they might have to make against other piracy of their products. There is not a single company that would want that. @Shinji: Wait, 5 series only from TV Tokyo out of how many? And two of them being Naruto and Gintama, so I ques Bleach and OP will be among the remaining 3 (If they are broadcasted by TV Tokyo, I don't keep up that much with who is broadcasting what) And how many series will the anime companies be supplying? All of their series or only a handfull with nothing but rehassed old series that have lost any value they might have had like DB and DBZ due to over the top broadcasting? Or only new stuff that they feel needs to get promoted and that would be taken down after a while? And will the amount of streamed series increase and how fast? Will the posibillaty of watching anime without paying but using the ads to handle the cost remain as a constant or will all services eventually be turned into pay per view-method? If so, would the prices remain reasonable or would it eventually shift to the same expense-category as official DVDs? This is the first post that asks all the relevant and realistic questions and I totally agree with it. everyone seems to be getting carried away with all the flowery words and congratulations but there are a lot of questions that need answering and I wish Shinji would give us the answers. |

I guess we will see.
If this proves to be a serious attempt by the industry to improve our options over buying a limited selection of DVDs sight unseen, I'd be happy to support it. Pardon my cynicism if I suspect that what it really means is the disappearance of obscure anime that the industry doesn't feel is worth it's time. but anyhow I guess we'll find out January 8th. I'll see how it goes before I commit to leaving or staying. Given how much of my disposable income I drop on legal content every year, The industry would be really stupid to dry up the access to anime to the point where I instead go and find another hobby. |

"At the same time, Crunchyroll has agreed to remove all user-uploaded content on the site and only stream video which they have explicit distribution contracts with the content providers for"
CR you fail. Why must you remove ALL anime from this website and only allow those companies to upload, its pretty simple to workaround, you just need to not allow users to upload the same anime as the companies. But all the other anime that the companies dont own should still be allowed to be uploaded by users, because im watching lots of new anime at the moment that only have like 5+ episodes released so far and i want to continue watching them here to see what happen's. Guessi'l be forced to go watch them elsewhere but thats not the point. There's so maney anime here that those companies dont own & arent even going to upload. So why remove those, i'd like to request a full list of the anime that those companies are gonna upload. Sure i can goto another site & watch them, but CR uploads relatively fast as far as im concerned & the layout of the site is good too, so id like to continue watching them here. |

Hmm, what to watch. So maney choices
