Who would you die for?

I like to fancy I’d be willing to sacrifice myself for anyone if it meant saving their life. Still, I doubt my courage. I’m pretty sure that I could die for my family or friends, but there are people who die trying to save complete strangers…. I mean, if it was a kid, or a woman then maybe… But honestly I doubt I’d be able to jump up for some random dude.

Like if they were being attacked and couldn‘t defend themselves, or were in a flaming building and couldn’t get out…I’d hope I’d move in and save them without hesitation, but I dunno. One of those things that you say, “In this situation I’ll do this!” But when you actually get in the situation you chicken out or freeze up…

Also, what would you be willing to die to protect somebody from? I’d die to protect a child from rape, murder, or abuse. A woman from the same, and a man from murder.

Now, before people jump down my throat, I’m a man. I don’t know why, it’s something in my subconscious, but have a tendency to put more value in a woman’s life than a man’s life. Maybe this is because I was raised by women and all the other men in my life are jerks… Who knows. *Shrug*

Also, are their specific causes you would die for? I’d happily give my life for my God. For the Christian cause. For general good will toward mankind, or even the war effort.

To sum it all up here are my three questions:
1. Who would you die for?
2. How bad would something have to be before you gave your life to protect somebody from it? (Nobody specific.)
3. What causes would you die for?

Like you said, you never know until you get into that situation. Everyone (or almost)wants to be the hero at some point, but self preservation is a pretty damn strong instinct. So realistically cant say.

One thing I know for sure is I would never throw my own life away for any religion.

Only individuals i can think off offhand is if i loved someone or if just realized this persons life is more valuable then mine. Causes sure, but don't have any offhand.

Well, for four years I literally swore I'd give up my life for my country if necessary. Thank goodness it never came to any situation that would make that an issue, but I was prepared to none the less. I was actually pretty crazy... I told my supervisor who did the deployment rosters that "I don't care how nasty or nice the place is - if we're going somewhere, I want to be there." That's probably not the smartest thing to say in today's military, but I was desperate to see and do e everything I could. Paid off in the long run though.

Aside from that... family and loved ones certainly. I'm not sure about random strangers but it depends on the situation.

For example, if I was on a plane being hicacked I'd do everything I could to stop without endangering the rest of the passengers. Or if lets say a crazed asian started shooting up my college campus, after alerting the authorities I'd try to stop him. On the other hand, if it was like an armed robbery or somethnig like that, I probably wouldn't do anything.

I think for some people (though not all) the military instills in one a sense of self sacrifice and an obligation to help in times of extreme need. It's interesting how many volunterr fire fighters and law enforcement volunteers are all ex-military.

when it boils down to it i am an advocate for genetic selfishness, my family's lives would come first followed by friends etc i'd probably die for my family if i needed to but i doubt my parents would want that as i have more of my life ahead of me, i dont know WHO i'd die for, but i would die for causes for example if my life would mean discovery of true cold fusion then yes i would as that would save the whole world from global warming
