I was actually scarily close to being a cheerleader - my friend wanted us to try out. But ended up sticking with dance instead. My secondary cheerleading squad was kind of pathetic anyway sadly.

Personally dont really get the whole cheerleading thing. Its not that popular in europe. None of my schools ever had any cheerleaders. We just had drunk classmates at the few sports we decided to participate in cheer people on, like football (aka soccer.)

Some sports its just ridiculous that they have cheerleaders at all, like ice hockey. I was at a match a little while ago, watched the cheerleaders during the breaks. Its funny to see people trying to dodge the pompoms while walking up the stairs on their way to the snacks area, since they have to cheer in the middle of the stairway. Though cheerleaders can do some impressive acrobatics.

What the hell is the actual point of cheerleading?

You're just yelling, screaming, shaking your breasts, jumping about, and waving balls of fluff around. By the way, it doesn't provoke or help the people you're "cheering" for.

"shaking your breasts"
and u're complaining?
i'll slap some sense into ya

when i was in high school, they were representatives of the "system" that i so despised.

now that i'm older, i just see young girls jumping around in short skirts and i think the whole concept is wonderfull.

really, it makes just as much sense (if not more so) than a handfull of sweaty guys racing up and down a field/court chasing after a leather ball.

America must be the only place where cheerleading is so huge. It's seems very stereotyped in movies too.
We had a cheerleader instructor teach us in high school before and I guess it was fun, lifting people and stuff. It definitley works on your muscles though, quick accurate movements.

Cheerleading IS very stereotyped. The whole bitchy mean girls that rule the school concept. It's definitely not like that at my school, but I can't speak for other schools. I would've continued cheer, but it is also very expensive :0 and I wanted to do sports also.

& for people that say cheerleading is a sport, I don't necessarily disagree with them. I don't think that it's really a sport by definition, but I do think that it definitely needs alot of hard work, coordination, strength, and more. We had to do stunts, and I remember the hard work. T_T Also, a close friend of mine broke her arm b/c they did a stunt incorrectly :\

^ i'm curious... just how is cheerleading expensive? I could imagine if you fall and break a rib or two, the hospital bill could be a bit expensive.

haha, well there's the hospital bill I guess, but I wasn't thinking about that XD And there's insurance too :)

It's that the cheerleading uniforms are quite expensive. There's separate uniforms, for warm and cold weather, the shoes, the warmups, and more. Also, there are competitions and trips that you have to go to. Even though you can fundraise for them, usually they don't get much money..
It goes to several thousand dollars. eek. :0

i admit...that it's not easy to be a cheerleader...esp with all that movies have portrayed cheerleaders to be...i've never been one...but i guess it would be cool and all. all the jumping and complicated moves and stuff.

i'm a cheerleader. dont worry, you aren't the only one. I think theres alot of cheerleaders here. Just because you're a cheerleader, doesnt mean you have to love makeup and can't love anime. those are just stereotypes.

I think cheerleading @ sproting events is just downright perposterous. Ive played football and still do basketball and i still hate the idea of cheerleading. Esp when the team your rooting for is losing by 30 point. Everyone in that building knows you arent that happy and peppy still and you just want to go home. To be honest your all a distraction! (note i dont hate cheerleaders obviously because i date one but i do hate the idea of cheerleading)
