Age doesn't matter as long as they do a good pairing and drama. :]

My opinion exactly. Sometimes couples in a drama with a big age difference are really compatible. I am currently watching a Korean drama called Family's Honor/Glory of the Family. In there, there is one couple who in real life has an age difference of 21 years, but they look very compatible because of the characters they are portraying.

Shin Da Eun - she is 22 in real life
Jun Noh Min - he is 43 in real life

There is also another example of a pairing with an age difference of 14 years, but the chemistry and compatibility are there, although I think they have more of that brother-sister type of feeling. They starred in the Korean movie, Love Me Not.

Moon Geun Young - 22 in real life
Kim Joo Hyuk - 36 in real life

In my opinion, when the casting directors pick out actors/actresses to play the characters in a drama, I am not always 100% sure they think about the chemistry/compatibility of the actors/actresses. Some couples with a rather big age difference (which differs for everyone) can work great together, but taking in account of a small age difference, sometimes the pairing just looks force and that does not work well for the production of the drama. Sure, a couple might look good together, but when they look so unnatural and forced (due to nervousness, lack of the acting ability or whatever reason), that is when ratings would drop or the "feeling" of the pairing is not there.

They starred in the Japanese version of Hana Kimi, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e, and a 4 year difference is not big, so it's all right, but in my opinion, they lack chemistry and compatibility, even if some viewers saw it, but I didn't. They are both good actors, but there are even times when actors can't create that on-screen chemistry no matter how hard they try (no offense to actors), which makes everything look force and unnatural.
