I am utterly shocked how there is no thread for this movie.

From Wiki:

Hunted by the Mings from China, young Kotaro and his dog meet a nameless samurai ("Nanashi") who is constantly being haunted by dreams of the past which lead him to seal his sword. Among the Mings is a fiercesome Western fighter named Rarou, who desires only to find a worthy opponent. When both groups clash with a Sengoku-era feudal lord, a proud general, and monks torn between faith and survival, the reason behind the Mings' pursuit tests the bond between Kotaro and Nanashi.

Considering that this movie is by BONES, it's pretty obvious how the animation would be: SUPERB. BONES is the epitome of animations (which is why they are my favorite animation company) and have time and time again come out with wonderful series with just as wonderful storylines. This time, they have really outdone themselves. I've read a few blogs and they are already quite divided. Yes I know that it's a pretty big risk to make a movie like this, cut between epic fight scenes and touching bonding moments, but it's those risks that make this movie just so....beautiful. It's these types of things that makes it good with the critics which in turn persuade the viewers into watching. Making a samurai movie with a storyline that, from AnimeNewsNetwork, "actually makes sense," and filled with detailed fights is hard, but this - BONES - is wonderful.

...And yes I know this movie is from 2007....and why there is no thread, I don't know. But Sword of the Stranger is a MUST SEE for lovers of gore and slice of life. (as long as you can take both at one time) plus, for you weary girls out there (for the gore and what not...though who can't love it?) the samurai is quite the hottie. :D

This is something you would watch time and time again. *goes off to watch again*

In Japan. But yet, it is kind of confusing, because different people get mixing with their own agendas chopping off heads left and right.
Anyway, the animation is fantastic (reminding of Samurai X style) and its tragic overtones. A must see.
