people will be intimidated by what they don't understand. it's almost like an instinct to reject the uknown and run back to their comfort zone rather than sitting down and trying to understand a new concept.

but it's not just a one sided fault. those who posess a higher intelligence usually look down on those who are more simple minded. both sides find the other to be inferior, it's a losing battle of great misunderstanding.

Everyone has there skills. But yes a simple mind is Inferior to a elite in his field of study. And so he should be given respect in that field. Trouble is people with No education attack people who taken the time to learn what they know. People like that I deem is not worthy of my respect. You have to gain my respect by showing that you know what your talking about, and at least show that you have something of a sound mind. people who run around spouting your going to hell because you don't believe in Jesus. First things first your not getting any respect for that. Next if you want me not to just treat you like a loser and give you a little respect, your going to have to do a few simple things one show evidence to back what your saying, as of yet no one has ever show any real evidence that Jesus ever did exist. Thats really odd wen we can find evidence for less populer people from even earlier times than him. (than there is the fact that everything Jesus did was the same as a pagan god that was around 3000 year before him. Born of a virgin Horus had 12 disciples he traveled about with, performing miracles such as healer of the sick, and blind. Sound like someone we know.

People reject the unknown and will misunderstand one another
I agree a lot on this point. I also believe that more often a lack of communication and sensitivity are also problems both sides faced when people have disagreement on certain issues or during arguments between people of different intelligence or view points. I be honest and ask what you mean by intelligence or how you define it according to this topic. Are you referring to people who are more learned or knowledgeable of certain issues such as academic or religious issues?

Sometimes people act that way for certain selfish reasons
There are people who are irrational or more often too deep in fear or self-believe to believe in proven facts but usually with time and patience with sensitivity, more often when presented with clear facts will often come to understanding or partial understanding. Its people who will just go against people who have proven their case with proven facts and evidence and these people despite being people of considerable intelligence will still go against proven evidence with the intention to gain attention or power among people which is far more dangerous.

People are jealous. So, either they'll end up admiring the intelligent people and want to become like them - pseudo intelligent -, or they reject them. It's a basic concept of how people react to things that are out of their hands, and which they can not gain in any other ways. For example, intelligence is not something you can earn with the years...it's given to you by nature.

I am pretty sure that each and everyone of us was once in a position where they'd want to be something else, or someone else, for example, wanting to look like that pretty model, or being as intelligent as Dexter. Some people end up getting jealous at those who have what they can't have, and will hate them for that. But some others will long even more for those people, will do everything to become their friends, and become like them.

So, what type are you? Do you reject and dislike people who are better than you in a certain discipline, or do you admire them, and want to become like them?

I don't hate intelligent people. Only people who say things like "I have a 185 IQ, don't argue with me and you are not entitled to an opinion!"

People looking down on others who are more intelligent, well jealousy is one of the main cause. Not to mention that one is threatened as getting a job requires ability to perform well and not to mention a certificate of higher learning. So when one is threatened, one tries to bash his/her hopes or tend to provide a surrounding where one's intelligence is not of used.

On the other hand, graduates of well known universities may from time to time, show off their intelligence or rather look down on others, putting themselves on the highest pedestal. Thus creating a hatred towards the intelligent for one may have plenty of IQ, but a lack of EQ is just as barbaric.

For example, Shih Huang Ti, the first Chinese Emperor burned all the books in that period for he acknowledge knowledge and feared that the people might rebel against him. By burning books, he could assure that the people are rid off any exposure to books better yet, any occurrence of intelligent people.

To cut it short, knowledge is the key to everything.

The way i see it is that they are jealous because they can't put enough effort to reach that level.

Stereotypes of intelligent people as physically weak and therefore unmanly.

Innate fear of knowledge as a powerful tool.

Intelligent people perceived as socially awkward and ignorant.

Hmmm, because some people are just intimidated...everyone wants to be the best at whatever it is they do so when someone comes along and proves or shows them up, not necessarily their intentions, then people just look away and tend to make fun of. It's been a problem since the very beginning...and from the looks of it, it isn't going to change anytime soon.
