the new plan
we'll have the newest eps of Naruto Shippuden, Shugo Chara, Skip Beat!, and many other titles on CR with english subs for ppl everywhere possible (with some exceptions like Japan).

On January 8, Crunchyroll will stop accepting user-submitted videos and other content from individuals, and only host videos approved by copyright holders. Gonzo and Toei Animation are two other major Japanese copyright holders of anime that decided to stream on Crunchyroll. ANN interviewed Crunchyroll founder Vu Nguyen in March.

db drop naruto
If we continued to sub Naruto, it would be a direct affront to Viz, a company that, for the most part, has been pretty amazing to us as fans. Sure, you can say that their dub sucks, or whatever other axe you have to grind, but never once did they ask us to stop subbing Naruto or Bleach

I believe this is a good thing in a long-term perspective. It was about time this happened, even if it sounds and seems bad and dark for anime lovers. It might actually be for the benefit of everybody.

Why? Well simply because there was no such thing as a war between the companies of anime , and the fansubbing groups. The result was the most logical one: providing us with entertainment while making it legal.

The anime companies are aware than it would be a waste of money and effort to fight against the tide. Tide that happens to be the streaming of anime with illegal subtitles. They joined it such tide, and basically won what was theirs, the anime show that is.

Also the anime fansubbing groups so far seem to be content, because their main purpose was to bring their beloved anime to our public, the Western public. Since this will happen in January then their mission is complete in a way of putting it. They showed their gratitude and expressed it by not calling for trouble, and gladly accepting the decision of the anime studios involved.

This seems to be good for the future of Crunchyroll and anime as a way of entertainment in America. Well at least give it a chance.
