Is Being Black a State of mind as well as a race?
I was at work one day and a white guy with baggy pants and a big white T shirt came in playin little wayne loud as hell in his I-pod..and the guy next to me said " I hate it when white people try to be black"..my question is does that make him a black person?

I guess this would be a question of whether it is a state of mind or race.....some people mix both of these things up!
I believe that black is a color and not a mentality.......Mentalities that are associated with black people are just given to us through our cultural stereotypes and how we act with each other..........It doesn't make anyone black if they have certain mannerisms of the culture....I think they are just simply mirroring a culture that interests them the most....i mean hell thats the same as Asians mimicing Black people's style and culture we are a culture that is so robust that people just want to copy us!
But when it comes down to it everyone may want to act black but no one wants to be black!

i know a lot of people who like to act black, i just figured as long as they dont say the N word its ok, let them look like idiots, but its funny when white people talk about the ghetto, & then when a real black person from the ghetto comes around the white person ends up making themselfs look like a fool, example K-Fed

There's something people must know, though.

No whole race behaves the same way.

This leads me to the conclusion that....

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS ACTING BLACK.

Why? Because if black was a behavior, then ALL of us would be acting towards that behavior.

And I know some of the nerdiest, geekiest black people on earth. None of them have that stereotypical behavior and language.

The problem with wiggers though, is that some of them try to look cool and be accepted by the stereotypical black person. But also, like said earlier, some are just being themselves.

Just had to clear that up, ya know.

nerdy black people are considered to be white, (not my opinion but how some people think) but you ARE right no race acts all the same

well here in hawaii its cool to watch anime and manga...but if you're black your NOT supposed to. but while some think i should keep it on the DL or that its "wrong" or weird for me to watch it and stuff i just say i dont give a shit.

besides that....i don't really think many black people i know act a certain way. the only thing we have in common is we all like to dance, listen to hip-hop and rnb, and play sports....im the only one who listens to rock and j-music (plus brothers)

I know some white people that have lived in the projects. Like this white girl said, because I try to tell people to stop sterotyping or whatever, she said her parents raised her up on R&B or whatever, so I don't see it as her acting black, she seem to act herself to me, and some people are just weird when someone is not black and listen to Hip Hop and R&b they are considered trying to act black or whatever, and if that girl was wearing hip hop hop clothes, you know if her parents raised her up on whatever, than I see it as that is the way she is meant to be. I try not to think of black people that speak proper english, dress well and stuff as acting white, I just see it as they were raised with a better chance than others that gave them the chance to speak well and etc. In, my education psychology book or whatever it was talking about at first that African Americans could not speak well or learn proper english as well, but then they said it is not that, just the culture you are raised in that African American just have their own dialect or whatever language of our own, that is different from proper english, and is one of the hardest dialects or whatever they called it (just trying to remember off the top of my had) to learn and understand African American speech.

Nolrame I understand what you mean, I get the weirdest look if I say that I like listening to Asian R&B and Hip Hop. But, I do mention I listen to other countries too, I just think the fact that is in another language, people don't think you should listen to it. And, like I love listening to French R&B because I took French for two years, I am not fluent in it, but I can understand it a bit more than the other languages. But, I still love listening to other music from different cultures, people act like just because you don't understand the language that you can't tell it is beautifully song or something to dance to, or just the way it is sung tells a story, and if they want to know so bad what the songs mean, just do what I do, look up lyrics translations, lol.

I'm Black and often I am criticized because either I don't really listen to R&B or Rap that "often" as I should becuase I mostly listen to Electro and Dance! And yes I have a Bachelor's Degree and to N****** in the ghetto they think I'm uppity and rich..... I'm wondering does anyone out there have these societal POV's or stereotypes placed on them...........

If I'm praying for God to help YOU, then there's no temptation involved.

Once again, you're making no sense.

Help you to see your foolishness of course.

That is, if it's not an act.

Either way, you STILL need prayer.

Perhaps you can use the intelligence you DO have to see that.

Oh I do. If I was normal here I would be dull. I suppose if there was a discussion on Christian thought I would be myself and exciting.
