Lately I've noticed some places selling manga near where I live have been sticking higher price tags over the prices printed on the volumes themselves.

Is this even legal, and what are peoples thoughts on it?

You'd be a dummy to buy it. The prices normally at the back on a manga is normally the customer's price, it'd be the same almost everywhere. This doesn't only happen to mangas.

Yes it is legal...
The store has the right to raise or lower the prices of their products their selling...
There doing this maybe because they're losing profits?

The price on the back is the MSRP, which is Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. Key word "Suggested"
The mark ups are probably because of transport fees/import tariffs/exchange rate or maybe its just greed/small profit margins.
Yes its legal, yes, it sucks, and there isn't much you can do about it...other than steal it somehow...

It's legal. That's how retail stores get a profit. but that's why you stick to Chinese ones at your local Chinese bookstore. $5..with a side of entertainment and it helps your reading...in Chinese. >.>;;; (has really bad reading skills)

Thanks for the answers, its kind of suprizing it is legal (and in such wide practise) since it seems a bit dodegy but thats how it is I guess.

Guess I'll be turning to the internet for most of my manga needs now then (usualy ends up cheaper and sites tend to get the stock nearer to release as well)

Most stores selling normal books don't do it though, I think these stores doing it with manga are just trying to exploit the fact that there's not many places to buy it from.
