the stores have to earn $ too

Most stores selling normal books don't do it though, I think these stores doing it with manga are just trying to exploit the fact that there's not many places to buy it from.

Yeah maybe. but at least we can decide nt to buy them! but isn't there someplace to lodge a complain or sth?

As long as the stores don't go over the state's limit of the item they're selling. Times are hard right now, so I wouldn't blame them if selling mangas is their job.

The price on the back is the MSRP, which is Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. Key word "Suggested"
The mark ups are probably because of transport fees/import tariffs/exchange rate or maybe its just greed/small profit margins.
Yes its legal, yes, it sucks, and there isn't much you can do about it...other than steal it somehow...

You know your stuff, I was about to type something similar. Couldn't have said so better myself to answer this question.

I have never encountered higher prices for manga :\ For me, at Wal-Mart, they stuck lower-than-retail-priced price tags on Naruto and Furuba and that was perfectly legal. So thus, shouldn't higher prices be perfectly legal also, however distasteful that is?

Its perfectly legal. If you dont have another comic store near the place where u live, you could also just walk to a normal bookstore and order your comics from there though. Of course u should ask them beforehand what price they would sell and if there would be any ordering fees involved and how much it wook take for the manga to arrive.
When i was new to reading mangas and didnt know where a good shop to buy mangas is, i was also just ordering them from a normal bookstore. The bookstore didnt gave any extra fees and would even contact u at home when your mangas arrived so u could pick them up as soon as possible( of course once u ordered them u had to pick them up and u had to leave your telephone number so they could reach u if u didnt showed up even several weeks after the books arrived).
Just wanted to mention that cause it could be more convenient to you instead of having to travel 1 hour+ or so to the next comic store.
