It does happen, but I really don't know why people always assume we are chinese. I don't know where you guys live, but Vietnamese people are practically everywhere. I know very few non-vietnamese people compared to chinese people from school, and etc... Vietnamese probably outnumber other asians 20:1 here...

Hm...It's very strange for me cuz even tho I'm Korean <I speak better Chinese btw lol>, almost everyone at my school assumes I'm Japanese. I don't mind Chinese cuz well like i said, i speak Chinese better but not once have I been called Korean.

Like everyone else said up there *points*, Caucasian people might assume we are all Chinese because of the size of the country, and really, how is it any different than us Asians calling an English <as in from England>, a French? We're just not used to having them around us all the time so we assume things.

I've never been called a chink either O_O;; but those guys <or girls?> are just being rascist jerks. Stereotyping people =_=

i think its because they got that from some people before us. i think chinese people were the very first asian to come in the western countries. correct me if im wrong. people usually say all asians are chinese because of thier eyes. they assume that all small eyed and pale looking skin people are chinese.

i get kinda mad about that (im chinese, but im still upset about it)
most asians can tell us apart, but some non-asians think we're all chinese, no offense to anyone though

Maybe because they can't think of other ethnicities?
People always ask me "are you Japanese? Chinese?"
And I go "no, do I look it?" and a majority say "no, because those are the only ones I can think of..."

well i think because China is very big and well-known so it sorta overpower other countries...other people might not kno any other countries in Asia besides China so whenever some1 sees a azn person they assume the persons Chinese
Posted 11/25/08
yea i get that alot to ppl think im chinese just cuz my eyes are slightly smaller than other>.<
or ppl think im mexican cuz i have brown skin well thats a different story T_____T

......anyways cuz i think everyone eaten chinese fast food before assuming that every azn is chinese

Yeah you have a really a good point. Actually the first people to come were japanese, indian and chinese xD
But what I dont understand is that im japanese and i have pretty pale skin and my eyes are actually not small at all yet at the end of the day people still think im chinese. Not that i have anything against chinese people but im just tired of being called that. I think because theres alot of chinese fast food chains has a bit of influence on it too...lol

Yeah, they call me Chinese too because I have lighter skin and smaller eyes than the rest of my family. I tell them I'm Filipino, but then they say 'Filipino' wrong and I'm like what's the point? I think Chinese people looks beautiful, so I'm flattered, but I'm also flattered when someone realizes that I'm Filipino. But I'm sure that if it were the other way around, that I'd think all non-Asian people are Americans. Most people don't know much about other countries, so that's why they do that.

I admit, that I used to think every Asian I passed by was Chinese, but I was white-washed by living in a predominantly white town. But now that I know more because of dramas and music, I can tell most Asians apart.
