Think about it logically. It cost money to license an anime. Are you going to invest in a shitty anime that won't be able to return a profit? Of course not. Therefore, good anime probably WILL get licensed, since they, unlike those bad anime will allow the license holders to make money.

why are half of the shows on crunchyroll licensed like naruto, naruto shippuuden, avatar the last air bender, Bleach, air gear, gundam seed, and gundam seed destiny.

also quarter of the other animes have terrible animation and are fo 4 year olds and aren't even licensed like doremon or hamtaro like seriosly its not like people 7 and under are gonna go on a computer to watch anime i cant even see how thats an anime

It is so cute how stupid you are. Animes are licensed because of the fact that they ARE good. What do you think licensing means.

Also, the pretense for licensing is to make sure you recuperate the cost of subtitling the anime. Then make money off of it.

The reason that those are licensed is because they are:

1. Not done
2. Don't have enough episodes to market yet.

Think of Hitman Reborn. This is a great anime and was only licensed after the 85th episode, because they finally had enough episodes to market the series.

Not all anime are licensed because they are good but that they appeal to a certain market, take for example Ghost in the shell, it was not too popular in Japan but in the west it did better because western audiences seem to like more "Technology is the enemy" type story lines unlike Japan which embraces technology and wants to incorporate it into their lives. The same goes for the video game market shooters don't do to well in Japan where as in the west they are probably the most popular genre.I agree with the last part though.

True I always forget the Ghost in the Shell anime, because I always thought it sucked. Nonetheless, anime is only licensed if the anime will appeal to a certain number of people. BTW, that is a BIG number of people.

I actually find most of the anime worth buying is pretty damn hard to get hold of in a box set either due to not being licensed or just being so damn elusive.

If companies are going to enforce licenses they should do more to distribute their products, I have yet to see a Tengen Toppa Gurren Laghann, Lucky Star or Code Geass DVD (let alone a box set, btw. I'm only naming a few or I'd be here all day lol) outside of an anime convention and then companies wonder why people download lol.

We shouldn't have to go on big hunts to track down anime and the licensors need to reallize thus and sort out their distribution.

Only the animes that gets high - views in a short time get licensed because the companies think if they licensed it thy will force us to pay for it. They also got that damn DMCA Act for copyright infringement. I say the anime companies are literally just gonna hang themselves to death. FUNimantion... so suck balls...

...that's the whole point/goal of licensors....popular series --> money --> profit --> business goes up --> business gets bigger --> more licenses --> money --> profit ....etc.
