In the Texas border town Las Cenizas the official language is spanish. Got lost and decided to get better directions and was I pretty surprised. I asked the guy giving directions if anyone spoke english and his response maybe 20 of the adults who live here...give or take

a lot of people are laid back, the culture is laid back
i love that

corruption...?
i know the older cops (the ones around their 40's) are corrupt, but it makes sense. think about it, if you earn 1-2k usd a month as a cop....I would take bribes too. Plus, a lot of foreigners would rather pay the cop 50 pesos (about 4.5 usd) to let them go instead of having to fill out all the paper work and waste their time when they are on vacation...I know the younger fresh cops are very hard to buy and will mostly reject you.
-then again, the standards of living are low, so 1k usd can go a very long way....

Rent is cheap 200-300usd for a decent 2 bedroom 1 bathroom and small front yard with parking space in the city of Tijuana. If it wasn't for the long ass border....I would live their and work here. Rent in San Diego, the lowest I could find was 850 usd for a crap apartment.

Clubs in Tijuana are awesome too. The Cerveza is cheap, not by much, but it saves you cash....and I love latinas.

I love that everything's cheaper. I go to Tijuana to buy medicine, get medical check ups, dentist, oculist, car repairs, car wash....mostly everything that can be done by hand. It's a lot cheaper. I save at least 4x what I would spend here in pricey San Diego.

What I mostly remember from Mexico, Tijuana to be specific...Is the long border...on holidays it's like a 4-5 hour wait to get through to the US...Mexico doesn't have a long waiting line, basically, you just enter, they check people at random...laid back.

I won't step foot in the Northern parts of Mexico. I would consider vacationing in central/southern. But id sooner go to South America than Mexico given the choice.

I have a bad impression of Mexico. I would never go there due to what I think goes on there. I know I am most likely wrong but, still...here are some of these preconceived notions:

-It is unsafe...you will get killed by the drug cartels or people will rob you/jump you
-It is dirty and you'll get severe stomach problems if you aren't used to the food
-It is uncomfortably sunny and hot
-Drunk drivers are everywhere and you're going to get hit by one and die
-People will treat you like an alien if you aren't one of them

I studied there for a couple of years and it was fine. You just gotta blend in, don't be wearing shiny brand clothing or jewelry, specially if you are going to take public transportation XD Plus in TJ there has been a HUGE influx of Chinese people so there is more variety. hehe
Most of the cartels usually kill each other so the general public don't mind them too much.
