As a Mexican, I'm quite proud of my heritage. Mexico is a country with extremes, on one side you got the beautiful land scenery and rich culture and history of some of the most powerful and advanced civilizations like the Aztecs and Mayas. Not to mention great food and the pop culture. Lots of artists from South or Central America go to Mexico to become more international.

On the other side, there's a lot of corruption, from the president down to the lowest ranking police officer the corruption is too much. Not to say there isn't any corruption in other countries, but Mexico's corrupt politicians don't bother to keep it hidden from the public eye. The politicians don't care at all for the poor people and leave them to fend for themselves, which is why it is very hard to progress.

Its true there has been a lot of crime in the past few years but it does not affect all of Mexico, Its mostly in the northern states, and its pretty much because Mexico is caught between South America(which is where the drugs are made), and the USA(which is the biggest consumer of those drugs). But judging Mexico by the drug violence and kidnappings is like judging the USA based on the Bloods, Crips, and the KKK.

so it has a lot of wonderful things to offer, but just be careful where you go.

One does not simply walk into Mexico

Word bro. Word. I'm not mexican, I'm asian, but I friggin love Mexicans! I've been to Mexico alot and They've got some of the nicest and good people you'll ever meet. A couple of my good buddies are mexican and I'm happy to say they can hold their liquor! Haha. My girlfriend (also asian) has a best friend is also mexican. I used to be in construction, framing more specifically, and a lot of the workers are from mexico so I spent alot of time with them and they're just awesome people in general. Not to mention you're food is BOMB!!! F**KING BOMB!!! Damn, I think im gunna hit a taco truck. Some of those pickled jalapenos are sounding pretty good right now

What do I think?

I think they need to stop letting their citizens break the law by sneaking into this country.

should destroy the border and have guest workers and more trade with Mexico but NAFTA and politicians and people who don't know basic economics prevent that plus some mexican's try to bring their language to the u.s. but they should stop that.. speak english in america if u want to be succesful.. taco burrito tostito .... if NAFTA don't do anything the E.U. might try to fk the U.S. over... i don't judge people based off ethnicity or homeland so i judge the mexican person by if they are good or bad... i meet good mexican's and bad mexican's... in my opinion..

I feel like if I go there, I'm either going to
be raped, jumped or kidnapped and maybe killed.

Mexicans are not the only group of people immigrating to this country. There are many Asians, Europeans, and south Americans here too but it is always the mexicans who are being talked about just because of the border. This country is referred to as the melting pot for a reason.

However, it is (most of the time) the uneducated people who decide to come to immigrate to this country. If only they change and try to advance but I have seen that most of them live the same way here in US as they did in their homeland. I believe that we should do in Rome what the Romans do which means that if you come to US for a better life, you should learn english, and get an education. Sadly, this is not always the case. (I watch the news and most of the time, when someone gets raped, assaulted or abused...it is either a Hispanic or black person...),

Having said that, I have met some good mexicans and some bad mexicans but like any country in the whole world, you get good and bad seeds from anywhere.

As for the country itself, my mom has been there a few times and she loved it. It is a beautiful country but I feel bad that the cartels are destroying it. To tell the truth, i'm quite scared to go there right now because of how things have become (too much violence and insecurity).

There is obviously something very wrong with that country considering that millions of its people immigrate to the US illegally and constantly.

I have some family members who I've only seen like twice & would love to visit but the situation up there is pretty bad so it is kind of scary. Its a beautiful place, culture is awesome but with all the drug trafficking & gangs it does keep me away.

I need to go back for a trip to Mexico (its been 7 long years). its my ancestral homeland (tierra madre). as long I don't have to spend all my time in just my mum's hometown (Morelia, Michoacan) caring for my grandpa and my maternal cousins and nephews/nieces, I would be happy exploring other parts of the state like Patzcuaro/Janitzio despite the vigilante conflict occurring there (then again I'm not too fazed or sheltered since I lived and done volunteer work in underprivileged neighborhoods of Chicago). would also like to see my dad's home state (Guanajuato) and other parts of the country that aren't too commercialized/touristy (I dreaded vacations in Cancun, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo) like Oaxaca, Jalisco, and El DF/Mexico City

I used to live in Jalisco, Mexico, when I was a kid. I loved it, but it's pretty bad right now, with the Cartels and stuff, according to my cousins and grandma.

I like my country, there're good weather, the food is delicious, you can go to an adventure, traveling to the near towns. The bad thing is the insecurity, is the worst
