TOPIC DESCRIPTION..... by crasyjak

Its not complex... talk about

+Your fav DJs & Producers

+Your thought on Samples & Beats

+And anything else in between

=============================================================================================

In this topic i want to take a look from the other side... Mainly Mc's or rappers are in the spotlights... But off course behind the mcíng there also have to be some good music...
So i want to know your toughts about wich Dj or Producer is the best in the line of duty..

Ill make a start with some naming a couple things i would go for.

Best Producer:

Marley Marl: He was the house producer of the Juice Crew, known for The Bridge Wars, a feud with Boogie Down Productions seen as the first hip hop beef. The Juice Crew included: Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Roxanne Shanté, Kool G Rap, MC Shan (his cousin) and Masta Ace, and produced songs for outside artists including King Tee and LL Cool J. He was also an important figure in the careers of Eric B. & Rakim, producing their first hits "My Melody" and "Eric B Is President", mixing James Brown samples and synthetic beats in a fashion previously unheard of. Marley Marl was one of the pioneers of sampling in hip-hop. He debuted as an electro producer, but his records became more sample heavy, as can be seen by comparing the MC Shan LPs Down By Law (1987) and Born to be Wild (1988). The rhythms became less electronic, with drum machines becoming less prominent. Marl started his career working for Tuff City records. He debuted with his own track called "DJ Cuttin" in 1985, released under the pseudonym NYC Cutter.

Dj Premier: DJ Premier's style of production epitomizes the New York sound of his earlier peers. He is known for sampling jazz, funk, and soul artists, as well as sampling an artist's past work when creating a new track for that same artist. In addition, his encyclopedic memory of hip-hop lyrics allows him to distinctively speak with his hands by scratching in lyrics from several different songs to construct new phrases. Premier's non-Gang Starr collaborations are well-known for his oft-imitated combinations of short vocal samples, often from multiple artists, to create a chorus. For example, in the chorus of Mos Def's "Mathematics," Premier cuts the following in quick succession:

"The Mighty Mos Def" (from Mos Def's "Body Rock"),
"It's simple mathematics" (from Fat Joe's "John Blaze"),
"Check it out" (Lady of Rage from Snoop Dogg's "For All My Niggaz & Bitches"),
"I revolve around science" (from Ghostface Killah's verse on Raekwon's "Criminology"),
"What are we talking about here" (from the movie "Ghostbusters"),
"Do your math" (from Erykah Badu's "On & On"), and
"One, two, three, four" (from James Brown's "Funky Drummer")

On certain artists' work the vocal samples will all be vocal samples of the artist from the artist's past work; "Nas Is Like" and Nas' "2nd Childhood" are two well-known examples of this.

By no means does Premier rely solely on hip-hop and soul samples. Premier also sampled and chopped up recordings of seminal electro-acoustic music from the 1960s on Jeru the Damaja's "Physical Stamina."

According to Premier himself, in 1989 Large Professor (formerly of Main Source) taught him how to filter samples to create his own basslines.

Timbo is showcasing his love for the art of producing. First, he conquered the rap world and now he's taking steps to conquer the pop world. It takes a great producer to be able to do both.

Other producers...

Just Blaze
Track Masters
Pete Rock
I'll stop there...

I would like to comment on Timbaland......he is not lame I just believe that in the Rap game people did not show him love......i.e. his albums Timbaland and Magoo....so I'm pretty sure thats why he moved on to pop because they will support him no matter how crazy and eccentric his beats will be.....I consider Timbaland to just be on another level now than what he used to be.

Oh yeah Talib Kweli.....pretty decent
