Note: It's not my list!!! Stop saying I'm wrong, etc...

like so many have said in the forum, it all depends on what field of technology you're speaking on, Japan, of course has banned any production for war in their country, but at the same time their cell phones are a lot more advanced then in America(Even the iphone is inferior, but i love apple anyways), the medical system in japan is a lot better to my opinion. Japan allows anyone to be hospitalized, wether they can pay or not. America, on the other hand receives the money first and then treats the injured person. On the situation that the hospital does not get money, they will leave the injured person outside the hospital and let him be. Japan is also huge on the sea, and they are working together with the U.S. on creating better defense systems against nuclear missiles, of course Japan relies heavily on machines, but i prefer America's cars to japans. Japan prefers smaller, boxier cars to America's slim and sexy, lol. This is because, like Europe, Japan's streets are narrow and crowd easily. The Japanese trains are the most advanced in the world. They have the fastest trains and the most organized system of train stations and lines. In America, if you miss your trainride, ure screwed. In Japan, however, another bunch of trains come for people who couldn't make it on time. Japan also relies heavily on trains and thus they are the most technically advanced there. A lot of leading companies have taken root in America and have become huge, like nintendo and sony, which are both from japan. This might sound weird, but the japanese have a huge variety of bikes(like bikes that run the motor with friction).

Did you just call Europe a country?? :S

I think one of the factors behind that list is also the skill-level of the general population when it comes to using new technologies.

Rant #1: On terms of Military technology wise, US tops Japan by far. The reason why this happened was because of what happened in WWII along with Germany too. Not to mention that the US also has all kinds of cultures and languages so that can be used as an advantage. If you compare Japan's technology as of such things like cell phones, internet, video games, robotics and such then Japan beats most or all of the others including the US. Since the Japanese focus on working in groups unlike some or most of the US then it's no wonder that they have better technology. Some of this may be or is bias but I believe that strength in numbers is a lot better than...well no strength in numbers. And I'm sure a lot of you believe that too.

Rant #2: It's sad to see any country that even has war technology. I'm not saying that defense it bad or anything (because protection is good) but the main point is that we are not supposed to fight. Since there are corrupt people in this world that possibility may be almost impossible because there is always someone who rebels. If the focus of technology was directed to making everyday life easier like you see in those SciFi movies of people teleporting and hover cars (etc), and not focused on warcraft then MAYBE just MAYBE we would already be at that point (well actually, teleportation is pretty much impossible regarding the laws of psychics that I know of but you know where I'm getting at).

I have to stop myself here because if I went any further it would probably get off topic. Sorry if I have gone off topic but most of this ties in with the topic in a way if it already doesn't.
It doesn't hurt to point out the obvious!

Japan isn't technologically advanced (anymore), save perhaps for their railroad system.
Japan doesn't globally lead any practical economically beneficial industries.
Japan's culture continues to be leeched upon by various foreign nations, US being one of them. (ahem entertainment piracy)
Japan has no practical military. US still has its military on Japan's doorsteps.
Japan's education has gone downhill since the yutori installment.
And now government is trying to restrict one of the globally acknowledged cultures that Japan manages to retain (anime).

Japan relatively won't last that long as a nation, certainly if any international violence is coming soon

Actually, I've found that Cell Phones in the US tend to be better. Android is an awesome phone. The Japanese have a few useful things - like transferring data through laser from one phone to another, but ultimately, the US kicks Japan's ass in phone stuff, particularly in regards to practicality. I had a Japanese Cell phone (Still have it, actually), and I didn't even use half of the features that it offered. (This was my phone in Japan - and this was considerably out of date when I had it -

The thing about Japanese technology is that Japanese invent and develop stuff, then sell off the designs or inventions to other countries, like China or US. Simply speaking, they invent stuff, sell the invention, and then continue on inventing new stuff. They do not make things. They barely make what they invent, you know. that is why the technology within the country itself may not be as advanced as the technology they have developed. but it is another perspective to industrial technology.
