Non-Religious people are more likely to be Intelligent than the religious.

Well, I will have to agree with you there. Only fools would turn off their brain for a non-existent being.

Of course it's true, non-religious people are more open to how we evolved than religious people are. Though I disagree with the whole "Its been shown that a persons IQ has a lot to do with there religion." I highly doubt it, your IQ has nothing 2 do with your religion

A likely factor behind this would be that people who are non-religious have a higher intellect as they do not believe things told to them and attempt to work out whether something is logical (from young). This is carried into their lives as they apply logical thinking to anything new.

A side effect of the first point might be that there is a drive to know "for sure", rather than to simply accept what is told to them. when you have a drive to do something you tend to spend a lot of time finding out more about something (whether it is simply a scientific area like astronomy, a sport like football, a hobby like photography, an art like painting, a subject like history, etc)

Another probable factor would be that again due to the amount of thinking done from young, the neuron association is much denser and further increases in density as they mature. Creativity and intellgence have been linked to neuron density (not brain size).

Of course as pointed out, the amount of free time not spent on religious ceremonies may be a factor as well.

As for the claim that this as bad as religious extremists in the sense that the original posteris trying to force his/her beliefs onto other, this argument holds no water when you think about whether the statement of forcing beliefs on others was true if the topic was on the results of a study on whether people who have down syndrome have genetically predisposed parents. The basis of both the original topic and this is the same as it is a conclusion based on a number of studies, not a "opinion" as per se.

You actually belive that religious people are more stupid than non religious people? Common, if you are a bit rational, you would deny this, even if you are not religious.

Being that you still do not have the Comprehension skill to understand what the topic is about.
No I my self do not think Religious people are stupid. (as for you I am not so sure.)
Are they the smartest people in the world? A lot of charts say no they are not. At that the charts show that Atheist do make up more than 72% of the smartest people in the world, 21% Do not know or just don't think about it, and that leaves 7% that believes in some kind of God.
Whats this really say? That the greatest minds usually are Atheist, Nothing more. (has nothing to do with the Avridge Joes.)

You have your opinion, but as far as I am concerned, I am a Christian and I would say that God has blessed my mind with high intelligence (Made a 28 on my ACT and have a 4.0 college GPA) I don't say this to brag, but to give the credit to God who gave me my mind. Many influential scientists believed in God. for instance, Sir Isaac Newton was a firm Christian and yet an influential scientist. Religion does not discredit ones intellect. 1
Cr 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness" [fn];
1Cr 3:20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." [fn]

The "wise" are the philosophers and thinkers of the age, and this verse has applied and applies today. All great philosophers never had their questions answered, their "wisdom" is futile and in vain. Most of them just frustrate themselves as their worldview and philosophies change after more thinking. Most actually come to the conclusion that there is a higher power, and those that pursue that would find Christianity to be the truth. Non-religious people are more likely to be "philosophical," not intelligent. If they were intelligent they would realize their double standards and flaws in their thinking. Their "intelligence" leads to pride. and pride leads to failure and sometimes insanity. I mean no offence, but this is what I hold to be true and have witnessed to be true. By the way, here is a list of the worlds 100 most influential scientists and their religious beliefs. http://www.adherents.com/people/100_scientists.html

You still don't get it. I am not attacking how smart the religious people are. Also I like to see the stats for your findings there on the Flemish Toddlers. That is why I doubt your intelligents. I only pointed out that "most" of the greatest minds today (Key word Today!) Are Atheist! I did not say anything about the intelligents of people in your religion. (Also I like to point out not all people have the same religion as you!)

Dude what i want to point out is this: it is stupid when measuring intelligence to make a difference between believers and non-believers, just as it would be stupid to make distinction between asians, blacks and caucasian. It's not that difficult to understand right?

About the toddlers: it was in the newspaper a few months ago, I am sure you can find it on the net.

ok I admit i made a mistake, I found the article, but it's not really about "intelligence", more about their motoric (?) capacities. But that doesn't matter. What matters is that the charts are ridiculous indeed, since I am the last one to believe Flemish toddlers have more abilities than American, Dutch etc. een though i am Flemish myself

Actually, about a fourth was not able to report what their religious beliefs were. But that doesn't mean that they were non-religious. In fact, most on the list were either Christian or Jewish. And the great minds of today are only great because of the bias that judges what greatness is. They don't want to believe in a god, so they hail those who devote their lives to trying to disprove it through science. They may make discoveries, but a Christian can understand how science works just as well as an atheist can. Where did you get your source from?
