This is dumb.

They say that they have to get rid of lolicon because looking at it will lead to people molesting children, but it seems to me that the LACK of lolicon could cause child molestation. The people with this fetish will have to find another outlet for their... frustration, and that could be bad... It's terrible to outlaw art of any type!

I don't care for loli's myself, I think it's gross.

While I don't like lolicon this is ridiculous, it's like all that crap ignorent people used to (and still do) spout about violent games making people kill.

Also how much time and money is being wasted on this that could go towards helping actual living, breathing children?

Its just so stupid

I have to ask, Does this mean that Japan wont make anymore lolicon Animes/Mangas anymore? Myself i do not own any explicit pictures of any small children from Animes or Manga (Maybe from the ones that are in a higher age but hmm but that doesnt matter now NOT Children, grownup characters!).

Im from sweden and we have had this law since uhm.. i can remember but there have been no harm so far from it so i dont think the "internet cops" does even care about this anymore, i think that they only care about the Real Children Pornography.

But this is just my opinion about this "issue" so my question still remains, "Does this mean that they will stop making Lolicon stuff in Japan?" If it does, im going to cry :(.

Actually will this change anything at all?

All writers need to do is state the characters are of legal age somewhere (like a character profile) and the censorship fanatics wouldn't be able to do anything about it since you can hardly make petite women illegal lol.

Probably will not change much, people will just go to the internet to avoid their country's obscenity laws unless that is next on their list. It is more of a gesture than a solid fix on the issue mabye just to please a certain voting block or they really believe they will lower child molestation numbers.

This is kinda sad really...instead of making a big deal of saving some non-existent children, why not do something useful and save some living and breathing kids that are being molested on a daily basis...idiots

And I highly doubt any pedophile who actually molested kids became one due to looking at a bunch of lolicons or shotas...I could however imagine that for people with those tendencies it could be an outlet for their sexual frustration or something like that...and thus maybe even save real kids from harm?

Either way, it's just fiction, it's not meant to be taken all that seriously...Want to go arrest everyone who watches a movie where people get killed as well? For oh my, they must turn into murderers after watching that anyways...
Why not arrest all kids watching Naruto...they're bound to be running around with weapons trying to kill people...

It sounds like their heart is in the right place (protecting young children) but this law just has the potential to be abused.

As someone who opposes (live) pornographic depictions of anyone underage, I really don't want to think about the fact that there are people out there who get off on that, even if it's anime or manga. However, animation doesn't harm anyone. There are people out there who are pedophiles and not all pedophiles are rapists. For them, that such a non-destructive outlet exists is a good thing. But... at the same time... there's going to be people who abuse the medium and children are going to get hurt if that happens.

What the government needs to do is put STRICT regulations of loli/shota anime and manga. They should monitor at risk groups/potential offenders, and work on keeping those who like that sort of thing from becoming rapists.

And, if this law does get passed, it better be a secondary offense type thing (like, you can only get in trouble for it if you get in trouble for something else first. IE, stalker like behaviors). Otherwise, you're limiting the artistic expression and the SAFE outlet that hentai offers, which is never good for a person's psyche.

The heart is in the right place-- protecting children-- but such a narrow minded approach doesn't do much good.

Lockea

Though, for the record, if in Gaimen's story we're supposed to identify with the rapist, then that's just wrong (*false nasal tone* oh hey guys, it's all right to kill little kiddies. Hurhurhur... Ew) but if it's horror for horror's sake... then that's still creepy and I wouldn't read it, but it's better than the former. Of course, I hate creepy things anyway.
