Twilight is a novel [or the series] written by author Stephenie Meyer. Generally said to be classified under the romance and vampire genres, it was originally published in 2005.

Through the past few years, a great amount of attention has been given to this novel [or the series, for that matter]. It's the first book of the Twilight series, and it tells of the life of Isabella Swan and her vampire-lover, Edward Cullen. Due to its success and monumental attention, it was followed by a few other books, and a film adaptation was produced as well, just released on November 2008.

I represent a great number of people who haven't read this book, or "haven't caught on to the craze".

In the past few months, I have heard many positive and negative remarks for and against the series, some of which are:

[Pro-Twilight]
~Stephenie Meyer 'revolutionizes' the concept of vampires with her teen-oriented approach.
~The plot construction and character communication is an excellent portrayal of adolescents today.
~Twilight [book and series, for that matter] is a book which is very approachable to both the young and old.

[Anti-Twilight]
~Considering their similarities, Meyer "may have copied" the plot of Wuthering Heights, an 1847 novel by Emily Brontë.
~Stephenie Meyer's portrayal of vampires is "far too impossible", according to some. This may refer to Meyer's concept of minimal weakness to sunlight, in comparison to the adaptations revolutionized by authors such as Bram Stoker, Anne Rice and Stephen King.
~Meyer either 'failed' or 'declined' to cover up some "plot-holes" to support the plot's image as a vampire-romance novel.

I am curious:

Should one spend time or money on this book?

Screw Twilight, you want something awesome with the word "Twilight" in it, go watch Twilight Zone episodes, or listen to Electric Light Orchestra.

well then hes most likely going to really want to watch the movie after he reads the book and he's going to be even more disappointed at the movie. and besides the movie skipped alot of details that the book has so it wouldnt give everything away. i had to mostly ask my friends about the book after watching the movie.

One should not spend the time or money to read this.
I borrowed it from a friend since I was curious, and I read the first 50-70 pages and threw it against the wall.'

And seeing as your a boy, you definitely do not want to read this.

ehh...teenage romantic novels isnt really my thing, but i've read them since everyone is talking about it and i want to feel culturally informed. Its actually very interesting because it shows you all of women's unrealistic expectations of men...

my absolutle loathing and hatred of Edward aside , the books are mediocre at best. I just wish there wasn't so much hype about it. they are NOT the best books ever written and certainly NOT the best Vampire series ever created
