Twilight is a novel [or the series] written by author Stephenie Meyer. Generally said to be classified under the romance and vampire genres, it was originally published in 2005.

Through the past few years, a great amount of attention has been given to this novel [or the series, for that matter]. It's the first book of the Twilight series, and it tells of the life of Isabella Swan and her vampire-lover, Edward Cullen. Due to its success and monumental attention, it was followed by a few other books, and a film adaptation was produced as well, just released on November 2008.

I represent a great number of people who haven't read this book, or "haven't caught on to the craze".

In the past few months, I have heard many positive and negative remarks for and against the series, some of which are:

[Pro-Twilight]
~Stephenie Meyer 'revolutionizes' the concept of vampires with her teen-oriented approach.
~The plot construction and character communication is an excellent portrayal of adolescents today.
~Twilight [book and series, for that matter] is a book which is very approachable to both the young and old.

[Anti-Twilight]
~Considering their similarities, Meyer "may have copied" the plot of Wuthering Heights, an 1847 novel by Emily Brontë.
~Stephenie Meyer's portrayal of vampires is "far too impossible", according to some. This may refer to Meyer's concept of minimal weakness to sunlight, in comparison to the adaptations revolutionized by authors such as Bram Stoker, Anne Rice and Stephen King.
~Meyer either 'failed' or 'declined' to cover up some "plot-holes" to support the plot's image as a vampire-romance novel.

I am curious:

Should one spend time or money on this book?

LAWL!!!! I read wuthering heights and it was the gayest story ever created on the face of this Earth...Next to shakespeares stuff o.o. Anyways how could people think its like wuthering heights? I read it and I dont think its like that >.>

The books are awesome but please don't spoilt it by being a Twilightard. I think this is the 20 or 21? Twilight thread I've seen.

No, for multiple reasons, to me it's just a cash grab with no literary merit.

This is by far the best vampire book i ever read!! I wish Edward was real!! It was so interesting that i finished it in one day staying up all night and the next day i read it over again

But don't watch the movie it ruins your imagination because you might imagine something and when u watch it, it's not the way u imagined it would b

watch the movie first, its cheaper xD , then decide whether the plot was good enough to buy the book..

I personally think the book is just overrated. At least, it never struck me as something remarkable, let alone just a fun-read.
