Well, for me, I had a history..
-My first drawing was a circle and a square with hands and feet..
I called him fireman and he was basically modeled after Fireflower Mario from Super Mario Bros.

-Eventually my drawing slowly developed and my parents said that the pictures were good, but maybe I could draw equivalent shapes to make them proportional and draw around the shapes.
At this stage, I drew and tried to match the pictures of Pokemon without tracing.

-One day my brother brought home a CD containing software of Stan Lee teaching you how to draw Marvel Comic characters. In Marvel, Proportion is first priority.
I was a major fan of SpiderMan, but those lines were frustrating.

-After practicing for a while and looking at the professional works of manga, anime and Marvel Comics, I realized their drawing concepts were the same. Although their proportions are different, they both take priority in it depending on the artist.

-Because of Marvel, I draw in proportion more often than in detail. There are a lot of anime that are probably hard to make because of quality but go unappreciated though due to lack of detail..

LONG STORY SHORT - Proportions are important.. But there are quite a few people who seem to draw nicely just because they add detail.. Something anyone can do..

Going to the local bookstore and buying a "How to Draw Manga" book. They actually work. It might make me look like a noob but who gives a fuck, you have to learn someway, right? But you have to practice, alot!

I developed it by drawing Super Saiyan hair styles on stickmen fighting each other.
It progressed from there.

Now i'm a pro at making stickmen and smiley faces with DBZ hair

its not really a duplicate. the first one is implying that you learned to draw manga with an anime. this thread is asking how they learned to draw, not necessarily just by anime. its a really general question. the other one is a little more specific. it could mean like going to art lessons or looking at videos on youtube.

anyways, i dont draw manga well, but i learned by watching youtube

i was on the toilet seat while eating a chocolate bar. i had a newspaper next to me and started to read a news article. as i put the newspaper down and went to wipe my bottom i accidently dropped my choco bar in to the bin. I went to pick up the choco bar to eat it again when as i put my hand into the bin that was ful of trimmed pubic hair, i saw something glowing. just like that sword in the stone that Arthur pulled out. i went to pick it up and it was a shining pencil and so i though let me draw something around the toilet. after a while i noticed it to be a manga picture and so learnt how to draw manga this way.

Watching too much anime and developing my styles off combined versions of the artists I favored. That and probably my attention to detail. Proportions and correct detail placement are important concepts.
