I've known so many in my life-time and they all started being like that for the same reason...

they thought it looked cool and the opposite sex looked hot with that style.

It's fucking pathetic, they dress like assholes, faun over some freak in the same clothes and bitch and whine just to fit in.

Bullshit.

emo hardly exists anymore. its popularity peaked from 2003-2005, and you can hardly find an emo anywhere anymore. even in hollywood, one of the strongholds of emo culture, where i often frequent for clubs and concerts, has seen a decline in the population. it was just a trend, a trend that many people viewed negatively. but now that its gone, the negativity remains, and will probably remain for many years to come. just like hippies; they were only around for 5 or 6 years, but "hippie" was still a common insult for decades. even today, being called a hippie is derogatory, even though hippies are virtually nonexistant. it is the same thing with emos.

Emo = emotional. Is it a trend? Yes. I'll be surprised if someone told me: 'I'm emotional', rather than 'I'm emo'.

I am not emo, and I want to be impartial on the matter.

However:
MCR is not emo. Well, according to Gerard Way, the vocalist.
In an interview (http://www.nme.com/news/my-chemical-romance/31256), he said that emo is 'a pile of sh*t', and it's "f*cking garbage [...] bullsh*t".

"I Write Sins Not Tragedies". I think that's a title of a song by Panic! at the Disco, not a band. Moreover, in an interview (http://www.nme.com/news/nme/24758), they reject the emo stereotype and brand it "ignorant [...], The stereotype is guys that are weak and have failing relationships write about how sad they are. If you listen to our songs, not one of them has that tone [...], Emo is bullsh*t."

Your statements are somehow stereotypical, describing only a more "mainstream" appearance of them.

i think emos are hypocritical. They all say that they want to stand out and not be stereotyped but in the end THEY ARE. When an emo says they're different its a lie because they're just like all the other emos

the only thing i don't get is:
why do they say they want to end their life....but they go no further than cutting their wrists and writing suicidal notes that just get thrown away in the trash?
and how are their parents supposed to reply? if they say, "don't kill yourself" most likely the kid will say, "no! i'm going to anyways!"
and if the parent says, "whatever floats your boat" [hopefully using it as reverse psycology] the kid will just cry and cut themselves more
