It would be nice if subtitles on the new or newish Xbox 360 app were soft. I know that in the past when making the apps for mobile devices the soft subbing did not quite work out and maybe it is because of that that it stuck with hard subs but I speak Japanese so the subs are kinda in the way. Hell, I don't know maybe it is too much trouble and maybe more people rather than less need the subs, this leaving the radical (and probably expensive) change to be more of a burden (on pockets). Even though that might be the case I will hope to one day have that luxury.

Regardless, the app is great and I have no complaints (simply a humble request). Great job Crunchyroll!

having HTML5 video would make a wiiu app redundant considering you could just use the browser to use the site. I know this is an unlikely suggestion to be picked up and implemented but man oh man would I be happy if you did. Plus, you know, even if there was a wiiu app It would never make it to australia

I suggest removing this:
from the site entirely. It is causing a lot of problems at the moment and it isn't even necessary. Nothing is rendered incorrectly in standards mode and everything works correctly.

Just talked with the lead engineer and he let me know that they're aware of this and that it's a little tricky because it is tied into some pages, but they are working to resolve / change it.

They should add a "back to forums" button or something similar to the bottom of each forum. Since I use my tiny netbook on crunchyroll, its really annoying to scroll back up to go back to the forum page.

inb4 "Just use back button" I have used if after posting on other forum sites and it takes away my post. To prevent that I press the button at the top.

You don't have to worry about it taking away your post or double posting or anything like that here. When you post, you post to a different page so nothing like that can happen. A good alternative would be to use the 'Home' button if you have one, as it should return you to to top of the page.

Alright, thanks for the info

I was thinking it would be nice if you had a recommendation feature like http://myanimelist.net/
I always try to find new anime to watch and that feature really helps. So I think it would be a great addition to CR.
I thought i should explain just in case. I mean a feature that would be added to a show page that people can post similar anime that people who view that show might like.

Im sure it has been mentioned but for some reason i couldn't find it and if there is then at least im adding to the support for it. Also there could be an arguement than why not just use that others sites but the recommendations on CR could end up being different and better.

There's one thing about the show info pages that grinds my gears a bit.
The Viewers Also Liked-section. Many of the shows are unavailable in my region, but they show up there. It's a constant reminder that I'm getting less value for the money spent than many other users.

Is there any chance that you could prune the unavailable shows from that section? After all, they're not listed in the main show directory either.

'course, I mainly use that section when I'm looking for recommendations. So if Crunchyroll had a better recommender (like the previous user suggested), I could just use that instead and this wouldn't be a gear grinder.

This is obviously low priority, but...
Since playlist.com is slowly dying and it's such a pain to get the embedded music to work in profiles anyway, could you allow embed code from Grooveshark instead? It's far more reliable.

Soft-subtitles are great, since I study Japanese and can understand many shows without the subs it's nice to get them out of the way.
However, I'd like to suggest -

soft-subs for all shows - some older shows at least have embedded subs that can't be turned off. Which is really weird when you can turn on soft subs on top of it. Probably really annoying for people watching with non-English subs too, to have Spanish or whatever subs on top of English subs.

soft-subs for all devices - there's no switch on the iPhone app. I wish there was. A comment above implies this was looked at but I don't see it in the master suggestions list.

Japanese language subs - for those of us coming to Japanese as a second language, it's sometimes really helpful to be able to read and listen simultaneously. I know, this is an entertainment site not a learning site, but... these subtitles already exist for many shows, it's just a question of making them available.

The hard subbed shows (via the Flash streams) are due to those being in the video when the publisher delivered the series to CR. This is typically the publisher's preference, so would likely be difficult for CR to convince them to deliver raw video. I doubt CR likes them any better than you do, as they can't correct typos, adjust subs that are too low for old overscanning CRT TVs, etc..

Hard subs on device apps are the norm, as CR has encountered issues before on those when they initially attempted to use soft subs.

TheAncientOnewould likely be difficult for CR

Yes, I didn't think any of my suggestions were -easy- exactly, I just want them to be considered.

Since very few if any new videos are coming hard-subbed, I wonder if some publishers might not actually have changed their point of view, for example. If not, then not, I suppose. I can usually get discs from netflix where I can turn the subs off, it just means waiting for the mail. I have no idea if that argument persuades the publishers - I don't know if they get per-view money at all and if they do whether or not they get more from netflix or crunchyroll.

I'm sure soft subs on mobile devices can be done - if worst came to worst you could fake it by saving a raw stream and a hard-sub stream in mobile resolution for each video's supported language. That would be a lot more storage space, of course, so may not be cost-effective. Anyway, mobile device platforms are constantly improving so whatever the problems were, at some point, the platforms should have the necessary support to make it work. Just because it may take years is no reason not to put it on the wishlist.

Japanese subtitles also might run into resistance since the industry seems to have an unreasonable terror of domestic consumption of exported works that are re-imported. Plus there may be some technical issues, since overlaying Japanese is a little more complex than overlaying text limited to the ascii or latin-1 character sets... still, that's no reason not to put it on the wishlist. ;)

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but...

I noticed in the Japan forum that there are always people asking or wondering about how other people learned the Japanese language and what resources they found helpful. So I was thinking if maybe we could get a sticky thread in the Japan forum compiling and neatly organizing all the resources/books/links/etc. and describing the proper way to learn the language (since I've seen people trying to learn Kanji before Kana which is a mistake imo). I don't mind starting the thread if need be... (though it would probably be better if it was someone fluent in the language since I'm not).
