Twilight and Meyer can both go burn. Same for 50 shades as it originated as Twilight FanFic. http://dearauthor.com/features/industry-news/master-of-the-universe-versus-fifty-shades-by-e-l-james-comparison/. SO ANIME FTW. In a serious note though my true issue with Twilight and Meyer is the message that they send to women. I've know many strong women in my life women who are self reliant and intelligent. Bella on the other hand is a twit who pines for her boyfriend. She has no internal strength of her own. Without her man she is nothing. When Edward left her in New Moon to protect her she tries to kill her self so Edward will rescue her and come back to her. Obviously he does albeit at a later date. This only says that "If my BF leaves me and I try to kill myself he'll come back". I have never seen such a weak female in any literature. This is in part is of course due to the Mormon influences in the work several of which are demeaning to women such as Bella's housework. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/24/mormon-influence-imagery_n_623487.html Then there is the imprinting of Jacob on to Renesmee. An adult werewolf imprinting on a newborn baby. This when combined with the C-section involving his teeth. This imagery is obviously intended to dissuade premarital sex. This is another attempt to take power from women. Due to the weakness of the female protagonist and the religious connotations aimed at demeaning women it is baffling to me how a women would choose to read these books. Women are strong they need to empower themselves not rely on the necessity of a boyfriend so they can find self worth. Sorry, for the long rant.
