I have no idea how I feel about him because the anime isn't quite over yet. I'll have an opinion one way or another when I know more.

Taku never really bothered me. But after the first two episods and i realized just how screwed up her was i liked the concept. Come one!! Would't we all get tired of seeing the same stero typical protaganist in a show! His spinlessness is a real charm for the show in my opinion. It fits pefectly and him having mental issues in a place were your mind is messed with alot is reasonable. So he's fine with me. Though his whinning may be hard to stand at some points its some what refreshing to have a main character thats a complet and total wuss.

If he changes later on that would be good too.

not really ...

If you been watching shounen animes for these last few years, you'll realize the "wussy" characters is quite a trend.

I like Takumi coz I can really relate to him. I can't really talk to girls as well, I always end up offending them, and I always freeze up at the worst time possible. It would be kinda cliche to see another brave, hot-blooded and nice guy taking the helm and saving the day like in most other animes (most, not all, there are some that, thankfully, deviate from this). I love the visual novel too (I haven't finished playing it though), and going through the plot from his point of view is really, really fun. Very different from stuff like Da Capo or Fate/Stay Night and even Tsukihime.

I've to agree with TutsyPop. Altough it's not like I fell instantly in love with Taku I enjoy the story so far and it's quite fun watching him. He's quite a wuss and otaku but it's a better constructed character than most of those I've recently seen.
Is soemone currently watching Linebarrels of Iron? I had some high hopes when I started watching it but they were quite soon shattered. The main character, Hayase, seemed as a quite promising but after a few episodes, those hopes were trampled... I hope the same won't happen with Taku. It'd be quite a waste, seeing him as he brandishes with his Di-Sword, completly cured with no sing of his previous instability and crying out loud how he's going to save the world...
Honestly, I've got nothing against him getting better but I hope they'll present it in a convincing way.

andydono, you're quite right that "wussy" characters are trendy these days but I think it's not the case with Taku. I guess his mental instability and him being an extremely introverted person are decisive traits of his personality. These so called "wussy" characters are acting wussy for quite a short period of time and then they "surprise" us, showing their courage and determined will. For a now, you can't say this about Taku...

This guy strikes me as someone who refuses to take responsibility for his life. He keeps shouting out "save me" when he should be trying to save himself. He's just a bit too "victimish" for my taste, IMHO.

Cowardly types of male character are normally not my cup of tea. My hatred for them grows deeper if throughout the whole series there still "useless" and there being protected by girls. God I hate those !

Of coarse there are exceptions sometimes with certain cowardly characters. For instance in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Simon the protagnist was those cowardly types of characters. Luckily the developers were smart enough to make Simon develop as man early in the series after a very important characters dies (LONG LIVE KAMINA!!!). Simon becoming a man earlier in the series was executed well and at the right time, unlike other animes where they try to mature a "wussy" character, but end up failing in the process *cough* Tsuna (Hitman Reborn) *cough*.

What I don't really like about Takumi isn't his cowardly type of personality, its his obsession with animated fictional characters, and his disrespect towards his loving sister. Then again, I enjoyed watching "Welcome to NHK" .

Yeah, I can understand your point of view. I also wish for Taku's development to be shown in a proper way.
Btw. it was a huge spoiler, telling me about Kamina's death. I've seen only 3 episodes so far...

I'm loving the fact that he is so messed up. It gives a more frantic view to everything and makes it more interesting. I think I can agree that he was a more aggressive and heroic person in the series so far it would have taken away from the fun. I'm really looking forward to the end to see how he changes, but part of me hopes he's still damaged even with his awareness of what he can do.

There no need to care about him, just focus on the girls.
