My earliest memory of anime here in the Philippines dates back at the mid 90's when RPN9 airs it english dubbed(i gotta admit that it's not crap) Ranma 1/2 and DBZ, IBC(or is it ABC, my memory is a bit murky) airs its tagalog dubbed Yuyu Hakusho(commonly known as Ghost Fighter in the Philippines) and ABS-CBN's tagalog dubbed Magic Knight Rayearth and Slayers. At that time, anime is not quite popular until the 1997 when ABS-CBN and GMA see anime as a huge potential and started to air some prominent animes at the that time like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Gundam Wing... The Popularity of anime is boosted when GMA premiere Ghost Fighter in their prime time slot with a whooping 7 million viewers. Anime in the Philippines is futher cemented its popularity when GMA launches Anime Assault( im sure that there was something before anime assault but I can't put a finger on it), it featured 2 animes a day, 5 times a week...

In the year 2000 and beyond begins the rapid decline of anime in local TV due to MTCRB meddling and whiny conservatives. Because of this people begin to search animes over the internet and discovered IRC downloads and torrent downloads. Eventually, Filipinos learn how to stream and thus they begin to leech to a streaming site such as CR.

There are lot of inaccuracies in my statement but this is the closest thing that I can remember.

AY APO! THE YEAR 2000 GRABE UN.....i was a growing anime fanatic at that time and i tell you those 2 or 3 years (memory a bit murky) was HELL, i became desperate for anime, heck i even watched those anime at a japanese channel airing at 11 o'clock in the evening and i don't understand a shindig about what theyre saying...and when i heard that you can watch anime on the internet (my first was youtube) i was ecstatic. Okay now down with the topic....the reason why many filipinos are here at crunchyroll is bcauze like many others said, we grew with anime, we LOVE anime, you can say its in our blood (not taking the credit for anime, of course its from japan the credits' for the japanese and so on...) and like our channels' gonna show the best of the best anime, doubt that they'll show melancholy of haruhi suzumiya and many others, but there's hope with channel 5...anyways since they don't show it here in the Philippines we watch on the net.

it because its part of our entertainment .. get it?

because TV stations there usually repeat the same anime all over again and some people are just too tired of it,. and sometimes, they even don't finish airing it till the last episode..

those guys at MTRCB still think anime is for kids just because they really compare it to kiddie cartoons...and that what pissess me off, better if you got cable cause of cartoon network not hero tv.

That's not the case... MTRCB is too moralistic for their own good that even UP students and some teachers file a petition about MTRCB's over zealous censorship. The UP dudes claimed that MTRCB abusing their power to censor movies/animes and it reduces its artistic value.
