I'm sure others noticed as well, that especially the general forum threads are becoming incredibly lame.I can't think of any counter measurements though, which wouldn't end up in stricter forum rules. Something I wouldn't want to decide since it's pretty delicate. Also I'm aware this is a forum with new members joining everyday and many younger users...

I can only ask you guys to stop making stupid, pointless threads like
what's your dream haircolour/ what do you think of mass murder/ what did you have for breakfast/ do you wanna be my buddy/ have you ever smoked crack/ who are you etc...Wtf? Who cares for this shit...
Also, please remember questions that can be answered with one word are not worthy of making a thread for. I don't want to sound like a bitch, but oh well.

If anyone has an idea how to do something about this, go ahead and tell!

I wish we could bump the really awesome old threads back in November and December. The young CR forum was much more fun, had less stress, and less lame threads. Where is that stupid thread coalition that I saw the other day.

Yeah, I totally agree... these stupid threads keep appearing... and the popularity of CR probably has went up so much.. and people feel the need to make 1 liner threads of people going 'I'm asian' 'My hair is pink' 'NaRuTo Iz tEh bEsTz' ... Ugh... Oh well, I asked the mods about it :).

yeah maybe just deleting the pointless threads to make it easier to get to better ones, instead of leaving them all, and like deleting ones that have been locked too, or is there no way to delete a thread?

A lot of the threads start off to be about one thing and ppl either interpret the question how ever they want to or they just get off topic and end up talking about the same thing another thread has already covered...

like seriously those stupid whose the most popular CR, or whose the hottest threads are really pointless, I didn't know this site was a popularity contest, or all those ppl posting blogger quizzes is stupid everyone knows the site, just make one thread to post any of the results...

I don't think there really is a way to keep ppl from doing it, once ppl have 200 points they make w.e threads they want, and only thing that can be done is for it to be blocked or ignored...

Yeah, that's an option. But it's one thing to revive old threats and another to stop people to make new shitty threads every 2 minutes.

You've got a point there, lilprince. Maybe it'd be best to raise the cr points needed to make a new topic. Like 500 or something? People will then most likely be more experienced in the forum.

*cries* i deleted my post! *brings the energy to type it again*

Against
- they are easy to post on so stay on the front page for ages!
- they can often be answered with one simple word or sentance
- pointless? I was asked earlier to choose between an anime boyfriend or a real one! o_O

For
- they are easy to post on so shy members can make their debut ^-^
- younger members will find them more understandable and interesting
- we all need a break from seriousness and debating! ^-^

Personally i think that a few of them thrown in with the more serious threads is fine and a good contribution to CR. However, there have been alot of them recently! Here are my suggestions:

- go back and post (properly!) on threads that you want back ^-^
- check the index thread; there is a debates/discussion category
- make sure you explain what the thread is about simply so that younger or less knowledgeable members can understand and post ^-^
- make Multithreads! For example a 'Love versus ???' thread that you can link all the little ones to. So that members still get their 'moment of fame' the creator of the thread should put their username next to whichever 'versus' that member asked in the first post.
- make a seperate section for serious threads (ie. split general in to 2)

I joined Gaia recently and ran from the forums on sight! Trust me- the CR forum isn't as bad as every makes out! ^-^

Oh and although you all probably know:

EDIT - from a post i made earlier that might be relevant:

I notice that quite a few of members make threads as soon as they hit 200 points. If the amount of points needed was higher then they would have to spend longer on the forums before they could create one. This would increase their experience and hopefully stop 'stupid' first threads ^-^.
We still want to keep this an open community though so 1000 points might put members off. Although those members that are put off might not have been good contributors. Ahhh too many sides to this!!

Personally i think the best way to improve the situation would be to stop points gained from the games section. That way members would have to gain experience in the rest of the forum. That might make them less likely to create spammy or duplicate threads. ^-^
Of course i have no idea how shinji would change the points settings.....

I've got one:this thread.its lame to point out that you dont like certain threads.jeezum crow why do you guys have to make these things public and embarass the starters?
Posted 5/2/07
^^ Yeah, the Gaia forums are much, much worse...

If people want the threads they like posted on, they should just revive them, simple as that. Also, as s_j_b said, less serious threads are good for new members to introduce themselves (outside of the new members thread).

well if they just randomly delete threads.. i mean the mods.. although its very obvious that its pointless.. those makers of shitty threads will feel that's its unfair.. since they just think that its pointless. and they'll be like losers going against the mods..

Yeah I know. I just thought it'd be unlikely for new users to check the suggestions thread out, so I posted this here.

I mostly agree with you. But I'm not that much into seriousness and i'm not in the debating club either, so i really don't mind fun threads, but there's funny and there's bs. Also interesting discussions have no chance of staying on the front page for over 30 minutes at this rate

@skygod333 It's not about embarassing anyone, I didn't mention any of the actual threads or names of people who posted them. I wouldn't care to do so, but since lots of people are complaining, it'd be nice to get some suggestions. Anyway, you've gotten your turn to complain...

s-j-b~i already posted to the suggestion thread,to charge points for opening a thread, actually that was what i thought was the case, when i was new here.thats why i did forum-games so much at the beginning(shame on me,i think too, that you should not gain points there).that would make the whole thing better i guess, cause you would think twice, what kind of thread you make,if this thread already exists,...etc.

Hmm, I think it's about time we raised the minimum points to make a new thread as well. 500 sounds like a good number to me. I'm seeing a lot of noobs spending a few hours in the forum games section then using that to make pointless threads.

If I had my way, I would give one negative CR point for every post made in the games section. Maybe we can convince Shinji to to that.
