a lot of people are blaming the noobs for spamming the games then making threads. that is a major problem, but if you think about it, after a while, it gets hard to come up with fresh ideas for a thread, so people post whatever comes to mind and hope that it gets some responses. it gets difficult to come up with new topics when they've most likely been done before at some point.

Yeah, but the logical consequence of this should be that the older "good" threads stay on the top page longer, not thread spamming.

Yeah, it's really called 'Don't make a thread, just use a thread'.

a thread can only last so long before it dies.

Like any forum, CR's forum has its "highs" and "lows" and the ratio between these two is always fluctuating.
Check the Discussion section of the index thread
http://www.crunchyroll.com/showforumtopic?id=3278
If some you guys are lazy to look for serious topics that have disappeared from the front page then you are not helping the situation. I assume all of us have a fast connection right? it takes 10 minutes to go through half the general forum. Just saying.

***The young forum had no lame threads?! Hahaha good one.

Once shinji tweaks the forum page a bit It would be nice to have a "debate" section for the more serious topics, but right now the forum page is too long to add another section.
Raising the number of points necessary to make a thread works only to a certain extent, and it would be more effective in terms of duplicate topics rather than "lame" ones.

I agree with most of your points guys please don't take this post the other way around.

PS: Be thankful we do not look like the Deviantart or Gaia forums yet.

There's an index thread as Mauz stated, and you can go back sooooooo many months back in threads. So the loads of them can be revived.

"If anyone has an idea how to do something about this, go ahead and tell!"
Make Eros judge, jury and executioner. I've suggested this before.

"I can't think of any counter measurements though"
1. don't respond to said threads
2. make good threads
3. ???
4. profit

If we respond telling them how dumb the thread is... we'll gain more supporters! And we need loads of supporters... as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

You're right. Still it's hard to keep a thread revived for more than a short while, because so many new ones are being made. And this wasn't supposed to sound like a requiem for the young cr forum. I started posting in the forums not too long ago and it's the only forum I joined, so i don't have any comparisons I actually browsed the older threads in order to revive one or two, but I didn't want to force it. Still, I think it's a good idea to raise the cr points needed in order to make threads, like a constructive suggestion or so I thought

Look, this is plain stupid. If you're confident enough in your english to post in a thread, you're confident enough to make one. You should start with yourself? I answered that below.

Tsk tsk, don't chop my sentences up like that please. I said "I can't think of any counter measurements though, which wouldn't end up in stricter forum rules". The other one's are obvious.

1. I don't, except for "lame thread"
2. I can only make a thread when I feel like it (meaning I'll have to have a reason, serious or not)
3.I will
4.okay

As usual conversation will continue to become repetitive in a society. It cant be helped I assume. Its not that suprising anyways. People will continously run out of new things to speak of. But we can always discuss something continously.

So true. Some of the newbies make threads like crazy. I think I only made 2 threads since the day I joined. And the only one that I know I made is Best Video Games of All Time thread.

Hey, for anyone who's interested, I started a Stupid Topic thread a couple of minutes ago, and it's the same subject as this thread but it's a bit different. It's basically another one of the stupid topics but it's about stupid topics. I decided to redirect it here. Here's a link: http://www.crunchyroll.com/showforumtopic?id=4673&pg=0 .

By the way, I'm really interested in these topics that came up before all hte newbies arrived. Come anyone give me examples of what they were?

1. Some threads may potentially have very interesting topics but the thread poster doesn't know how to sell the topic and it may end up just being a one-word response thread. At the same time, the thread poster may think the thread title is all it takes for a thread topic to be understood and doesn't elaborate or explain what is being discussed.

2. For threads which require only short answers such as two options, on some forums I've been to, they lock the thread and only allow members to participate in a simple poll. They would have a huge section dedicated to participating in polls and once they've participated, they no longer are able to post in that thread anymore. It cuts down on the threads which are very easy to post in so there is less spam.

3. Some forums actually have a moderator who has to approve a particular thread and works with the member who created it before it can be posted in the forums. Basically, if the thread topic is irrelevant, useless, pointless, etc.--all of those things--the thread does not get put up and it really hinders a lot of threads which may only promote spam. As a side effect, there is also a particular kind of fear or aspiration to get a certain thread topic approve so the members seem to generally think twice about the thread topic before they send in a request.

4. Alternatively, on some forums, threads which encourage spam and not much discussion are moved to a spam section where anything goes in those threads but it does not give points or raise post count.

5. Some forums also have a thread-posting guideline and list down some thoughts to help create interesting thread topics. The members are encouraged to read through the guideline before posting a thread. Essentially the threads are encouraged to promote some sort of discussion.

6. Some forums prohibit newbie members from posting in a thread. They are encouraged to stay on the site and accumulate various amounts of posts before they are able to post in certain sections of the forums.

7. Certain threads may have similar topics so all of those are closed and the moderator simply merges or consolidates all of the corresponding thread topics into one new, universal thread. For instance, if there was a topic on amusement parks, the first post of the thread would list down as many amusement park related questions the members can answer instead of having them all in different threads. Basically, anything amusement park related goes into one thread.

8. Something interesting I've seen is a thread which actually goes into discussion about what kinds of discussion threads can be posted and how to make them good before they are put up. It's a slow process but the result produces some really great discussion threads which are bursting with activity.

As for some other thoughts I had:

Some members may not have too much experience creating thread topics. Also consider the varying age of members. Perhaps the thread created by a 12 year old will radically have a topic less complex compared to someone who is 20 years old and knows the topic well, knows what he/she wants to address on it, etc.--This is just an example.
