This summer I tried authentic miso soup. It was very sour and I didn't like it all. One of my Japanese friends made it (she's a foriegn exchange student) so I said I liked it and choked it down. Later one of the other Japanese exchange students told me she didn't make it right.

To be honest I don't find the food that great. Sometimes I wonder is it because its Japanese that people go crazy over it?

I like tempura. In Northampton, MA, there used to be a restaurant called the Ichiban, and their vegetable tempura was really great, especially the yam. Sadly, the Ichiban closed down several years ago, and its competitor, The Teapot, is nowhere near as good. Tempura is but one of many indications that everything that can be eaten, is better deep-fried.
