Mecha anime is quite excellent. It's usually disliked by those who like shows with no depth and unintelligent melodrama (If I gave an example, people would complain). Yeah, I said it. I'm not pointing it out to any one specifc; nor am I saying that just because you like unintelligent shows or that you don't like mecha shows, that you yourself are unintelligent, so don't assume that. I'm simply saying that, the VAST MAJORITY of people who dislike mecha anime, tend to like shows that are, quite simply, for the shallow and ditzy. Logically, these same people have a TENDENCY (please look up the word before getting mad) to be shallow and ditzy themselves.

As I've plainly stated, there's plenty of exceptions to the rule above, but it really makes one think about people who publically brand an entire genre as "sucking" without giving any real analytical reasons as to why or how they 'suck'. It also makes one question if these people have even seen enough of the genre they're commenting on to be making such generalized statements, without even leaving room for exception. Surely, the intellect of such a person is... requiring of further investigation, let's say. That's not to say they're stupid, but it's entirely possible, thus the need for further investigation, hmm? Just a thought...

Now, as far as great mecha anime go, I've recently found a show called Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan that shows quite a bit of promise. Let's hope it doesn't pull a traditional Gainax ending and screw itself over at the end of the series shall we? If you're looking for something a bit less recent, might I recommend Mobile Suit Gundam ZETA and GaoGaiGar. Both shows are quite excellent and rather diverse really, ZETA representing the more serious, "realistic" mecha anime and GaoGaiGar being one of the over the top super robot shows. Both are quite excellent (though GGG takes about 24 eps before it gets good) and are worth a watch. Be sure to check them out some time.

i am not usually an avid watcher of the whole mecha genre but i make exception for Idolmaster xenoglossia purely because it is funny in its sub plot rather than just full on mecha, well from what i've seen anyway. its worth watching.

There are mecha animes I like. Few are my top favs, lke FMP, Eva and Macorss(I am obsessed with it). Its just that more mecha anime..like Gundam are bad. Actually those 3 mechas are not even really about mecha. FMP is a romantic comedy; Eva is an mainly religious drama; and Macross is about war being bad. Gundam(all of them) has the same theme as Macross....but that anime is just BAAADDDD. Bandai just seems to shit out Gundam after Gundam and they are all the same to make some money.

Mmmm... I tried being nice earlier, but... after seeing some of the posts made by one of the mods and therefore, role model members here, "mushroomjay" I guess I'll quit pulling punches, hmm? He seems to have no problems with getting into trouble for telling the truth, so I guess I should be okay. Let's get started shall we?

First of all, no, the theme of Gundam is not the same as Macross. It's not even close. Macross has giant aliens trying to take over earth, Gundam... has no aliens at all! Nor does it use a space technology developed from a starship that crashed on earth! Good job on that one! You've really demonstrated a great deal of knowledge there to be making generalizations on all of the Gundam series now haven't you!

Have you ever seen the original Gundam or perhaps the Zeta series? No, you haven't. I already know that, because other wise you wouldn't be making generalized and outright dumb ass statements like, "They're all the same". I mean, hell, look at G. Are you going to seriously say with a straight face that G was "the same" as Zeta? Good job, you've even managed to show that your idea of "the same" applies to any show with mecha what so ever, reguardless of plot, design or concept! After all, a show about defeating giant humanoid aliens with super advanced technology and SINGING as well as a show about a war between a rebellious space colony revolutionary movement which arose from discontent due to oppression and the general "world" government, BY YOUR OWN WORDS, have the same theme. Yeah, totally.

Have recent Gundam series been lacking? I'll be the first one to tell you that Wing was a joke and SEED needed more time in development, not to mention the abominations that were Gundam X and to a lesser extent, Turn A. Does that mean that all Gundam series suck? No. Infact, I'd wager that you've never even seen a Gundam series outside of Cartoon Network. And no, watching a single episode or clip of something doesn't count, sorry. But for you to state that all the Gundam series suck... that's an awfully large claim to make about a series that is widely considered to have defined an entire genre of science fiction, now isn't it? But what would you know of cultural impacts of anime, after all, it's the same thing as Macross!

Oh, but here's this one, I like this one quite a lot!

Really? They're not mecha anime hmm? Well then, by that definition, there isn't any mecha anime in existence. I'd like you to name even one! Let's look at some of our popular giant robot anime through your rose colored glasses shall we?

*GaoGaiGar? Why that's about the courage of the human heart!

*Zone of Enders, Delores? Oh that's about family values!

*Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan? That one is about aspiring to better yourself and furthering your own ambition!

*Eureka 7?! It stands for values concerning the protection of nature and treating the planet right!

*Voltron AKA GoLion is about standing up against oppression!

Real nice points there, really. You should be an debate major, with you're ever so articulate ways of defining your opinion and backing it up with breath taking reasoning and logic! Who could stand against such statements as, "That anime is BAAAAAAAD" and "Gundam sucks", why I dare say, you really have shown an incredible amount of intellect now haven't you? George W would be proud I'm sure, your presence on the 'internets' is a shining example to us all.
