Universal Signs Snoop/The Game Ghostwriter Problem

Compton, California has more to be proud of besides an upcoming album from The Game and continued hope of ever seeing Dr. Dre's Detox. Universal Republic announced today that they have signed another emcee from the famed hood, not far from L.A.X. Airport, Problem.

The German-born, Compton raised rapper is perhaps best known for penning Snoop Dogg's recent album cut "Never Have To Worry" on Ego Trippin' as well as the chorus to upcoming Lil Wayne and The Game collaboration "Red Magic."

The signing comes after Second Round Knockout, a recent mixtape from the artist, sold a reported 13,000 copies. The mixtape spawned the single "I'm Toe Up," which achieved significant airplay on Los Angeles' Power 106 shortly thereafter, prompting Universal to offer the rapper a deal. This announcement comes after other songwriters, namely The Dream and Shawty Redd have agreed to deals elsewhere.

Of the announcement, Problem stated, "I'm here for the mainstay. It's going to be a problem for a long time."

N.E.R.D. Discuss New Album

Pharrell Williams and the N.E.R.D. crew are prepping the release of their next LP. As they explained it, much of the album is going to take fans on a trip through various genres and feelings.
"We didn't care about genres; we're not doing this for the money. We're doing this for people who pledge allegiance to our movement," P told MTV.

"It's a mixture of senses that may cause a person to experience colorful hearing, auditory smell," group member Shay added. "For example, you might see something, and it might trigger a song. You might hear something, and it might trigger a taste in your mouth. When we created this album, it was the music we envisioned while creating it. We decided it would be the appropriate title for the album."

"If you really analyze that, the most inspiration is probably deep inside a synesthesiac. So for us, 'seeing sounds' is what we relate to the most. We figured we'd make an album out of it," Pharrell noted.
"Energy and emotion was the criteria [while recording], but we made the music anticipating the [live] show. That was the most important thing. ... [The song] 'Spazz' is [a] nostalgic, hip-hop feeling with some drum and bass. It becomes a big, tall monster. It's almost like this big gorilla looking down at you. If he smacks you, he kills you. His fingers are the size of your body. That's kinda what we're doing in N.E.R.D. We're facing this big monster of, of what we know is out there, of what we see, that big monster of energy."

Starting in mid-April, the N.E.R.D. crew will join Kanye West on the Glow in the Dark Tour. While their single, "Everyone Nose" (a song about cocaine), will be released soon, their album, Seeing Sounds, will be released in June.

The Roots Leave "Birthday Girl" Behind

The fans have spoken, and apparently The Roots are listening. After leaking the single "Birthday Girl" in early March, it is now being announced that "the song is now the International Single and will be an iTunes exclusive."

Okayplayer.com, the online community created by Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson, had its message boards filled with mixed reviews from fans immediately after "Birthday Girl" was leaked. While the lyrics dealt with the topic of the awkward relationship between artists and underage female fans, the inclusion of vocalist Patrick Stump, of Fall Out Boy, was clearly not embraced by the majority of The Roots' fans.

In addition to allegations that a Def Jam employee posing as a Fall Out Boy fan leaked a video of the single on YouTube, "Birthday Girl" also spawned a new column by Andrew Noz of Cocaineblunts.com and XXL.com fame entitled You Sold Out Homie. Tom Breihan of the Village Voice echoed the sentiments of some fans saying, "'Birthday Girl' is quite possibly the worst thing The Roots have ever done."

As such, the song will no longer be the lead single from Rising Down. The news was released via Okayplayer.com by a brief post yesterday afternoon stating, "We told you a few weeks ago that 'Birthday Girl' could easily get dropped off of Rising Down." Rising Down is still expected to be released on April 29....The song is below!

Tupac Murder Report Based On Fraudulent Documents?

According to a report by TheSmokingGun.com [click to read], documents used by the Los Angeles Times to substantiate claims made by unnamed sources that Sean “Diddy” Combs knew beforehand of the plot to assault Tupac Shakur in 1994 at the Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan were apparently prepared not by the F.B.I. as reported, but by James Sabatino, the alleged accomplice of James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond in the attack on Shakur.

In their report, The Smoking Gun claims that the Times have been “hoaxed” by Sabatino.
The Times piece, first published online last week [click to read], was written by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Chuck Philips. In his piece, Philips claimed that the ’94 assault on Shakur was orchestrated by Henchman, an artist manager, and Sabatino, a promoter and son of a captain in the Colombo crime family. Philips alleged that the attack on Tupac was intended to “punish” Shakur for refusing to sign to Bad Boy Records and employ Henchman as his manager, as well as Tupac’s insistence that he did not share the blame for the rape charges he was then on trial for with his co-defendant, Jacques “Haitian Jack” Agnant, a friend of Rosemond’s.

But most importantly, Philips alleged that the attack on Shakur was carried out to “curry favor with Combs.”

But according to The Smoking Gun, Philips appears to have been misinformed about Sabatino’s connection to Combs. According to the website’s report published online today, Sabatino is merely a “con man and accomplished document forger, an audacious swindler who has created a fantasy world in which he managed hip-hop luminaries, conducted business with Combs, Shakur, Busta Rhymes, and The Notorious B.I.G., and even served as Combs's trusted emissary to Death Row Records boss Marion "Suge" Knight during the outset of hostilities in the bloody East Coast-West Coast rap feud.”

The Smoking Gun report claims that Sabatino, now 31-years-old and an inmate at the Allenwood federal penitentiary, was nothing more than an overzealous fan of Hip Hop who attempted to, “to insinuate himself, after the fact, in a series of important hip-hop events, from Shakur's shooting to the murder of The Notorious B.I.G.”

The website’s report goes on to suggest that Sabatino may have personally constructed the alleged F.B.I. summary of an informant’s statements regarding the assault on Shakur that was included with the Times report to substantiate claims made by the three assailants of Tupac’s to Philips. The Smoking Gun claims that inspection of the document reveals “obvious similarities (type size, font, line spacing, individual character renderings)” to court filings created by Sabatino while he’s been housed at Allenwood.

The Smoking Gun report also includes intriguing insight into Sabatino’s criminal career and apparent fallacious claims of ties to the music business.

During HipHopDX’s interview of Chuck Philips last week [click to read], the author of the controversial Times report reminded that his primary source of information for his piece was not the now questionable F.B.I. report but his direct conversations with the alleged perpetrators of the attack on Shakur. “I didn’t base my story on that informant,” said Philips. “I based this story on my own reporting. We came up on those documents later after I was pretty much sure of what happened.”

A request made to Chuck Philips for comment specifically on The Smoking Gun report was not returned as of press time.

Update: James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemand and his attorney have both issued statements to HipHopDX regarding today’s piece on TheSmokingGun.com.

"I have always maintained over the past 14 years that I had no knowledge or involvement in the assault on Tupac in 1994," says Rosemand. "I have been targeted by L.A Times writer Chuck Phillips and dishonest government informants in an effort to ruin my name in an industry that I've devoted 16 years of my life to. In this peaceful time in Hip Hop, the L.A. Times' false accusations are as serious as when J. Edgar Hoover deliberately sent false hate letters to chapters of the Black Panther Party to create mistrust, violence and mayhem amongst them. Chuck Phillips irresponsibly did the same thing by creating a potentially violent climate in the Hip Hop community. Because the truth has come out, I am finally hopeful that I can move forward in my service to the music industry."

Rosemand’s attorney, Jeffrey Lichtman, adds, "I wrote a letter late last year to Chuck Phillps and his editors at the L.A. Times in which I warned them that their information was wildly wrong about Mr. Rosemond's purported involvement in the 1994 shooting of Tupac; in my letter I warned them that if they persisted in publishing the story they would be sued for libel. Because the L.A. Times was more interested in selling newspapers than reporting the truth, James Rosemond has been tragically libeled. Any first year lawyer could see that the FBI 302 reports which formed the basis of the Times' story were fabricated – and yet the Times went ahead with the story anyway. I would suggest to Mr. Phillips and his editors that they immediately print an apology and take out their checkbooks – or brace themselves for an epic lawsuit.”

While the L.A. Times have not yet printed an apology, Editor Russ Stanton did announce today that the paper will launch an internal investigation into the authenticity of the apparently forged F.B.I. documents [click here to read]. "Questions have been raised about the authenticity of documents that we relied on for a story on the assault of Tupac Shakur in New York," Stanton said via statement. "We are taking this very seriously and have begun our own investigation."

Kanye West Stole "Good Life"???

While successfully defeating 50 Cent in record sales with Graduation back in September, Kanye West may be facing a more serious challenge as he is being sued for copyright infringement.

According to TMZ, the lawsuit, filed in Maryland District Court by Dayna Staggs (aka D’Mystro), claims the producer intentionally used his tune "Volume of Good Life" in order to create the second hit single, "Good Life."
Staggs, who used his music sheet and compared it to West’s within the submitted lawsuit, has said that the Roc-A-Fella artist “didn’t obtain a license to use Volume of Good Life” for his record.

He also went further in-depth as he used West’s age at the time of his original composition as reason enough for him to obtain the rights. Staggs affirmed that West was “only at the age of six or seven years” when the song was written.
In addition to his filed lawsuit, Staggs has also taken offense to the wording and concepts applied to the newer version. According to him, West’s "Good Life" contains "vulgar and offensive” images in addition to harming the reputation of his less explicit song.

As of now, Staggs is requesting 85% of all world sales of the proceeds from the music that used his work. In addition to West, he also included the entire Roc-A-Fella record label in the lawsuit.

Remy Ma Found Guilty, Faces Up To 25 Years

It seems as if T.I. won't be the only rapper facing jail time in the near future. Today (March 27) 26-year-old Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma (real name Remy Smith) has been convicted on four major charges of the nine she was charged with -- two counts of first-degree assault, attempted coercion, and criminal possession of a weapon --after a 2007 incident in which she shot a friend of hers in the stomach (non-fatally) after a fight over $3,000 in cash stolen from Remy's purse. Remy's failed defense was that the shooting was an accident.

Assistant District Attorney Michael McIntosh said Remy "took an illegal .45-caliber automatic and loaded it with hollow-point bullets," then used both hands to cock the weapon as she got into the car. "She took every step you had to take to shoot somebody," said the prosecutor.

Defense lawyer Ivan Fisher said the gun went off accidentally as the women struggled over the bag.
The victim, former friend Makeda Barnes Joseph, who was shot in the abdomen, testified that she underwent three surgeries during a three-week hospital stay.

Remy was not found guilty of gang assault and witness tampering, among the nine total charges she faced. Reports are surfacing that as the verdicts were read, the courtroom broke out into madness with the victim's friends and family taunting Remy and making lewd remarks.
Remy could face up from five to 25 years in prison at sentencing. She was led out of a Manhattan courtroom Thursday, weeping and in handcuffs.

Papoose Plans To Wed Remy In Prison

While Papoose and Remy Ma have previously denied that they were romantically involved, Papoose has changed his tune in light of Remy’s recent court troubles.

In an e-mail he wrote to MTV, Papoose said that he and Remy had plans to marry next month—and that those plans will continue, despite her facing up to 25 years in prison. This builds upon what's been previously reported by DX [click here to read...]
"We always wanted to keep our personal lives personal, so that's why we never went public with our relationship," he said. "Right now, I just feel like she gotta live through me. Yes, we were scheduled to be married on a yacht April 27th. But due to circumstances beyond our control, we are now making arrangements to be married in prison."

Papoose has previously shown affection toward Remy in his lyrics (“Remy look good in person, just like she do in the magazine/so I’ma stay close to Ms. Martin, like Dr. King”), but the two had flatly denied being involved up until this point.
As DX reported earlier today [click here], faces a possibility of up to 25 years in prison for an assault and weapons charge surrounding an altercation that landed former friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the hospital. Remy’s attorney, Ivan Fischer, plans to appeal yesterday’s guilty verdict.

Justice Rena Uviller ordered her jailed without bail while awaiting her April 23 sentencing.

50 Cent Talks G-Unit Album, Curtis Disappoinment

Though the group has already saturated the market in 2008 with mixtapes, 50 Cent wants to remind listeners that G-Unit isn’t out of the business of studio albums.
This week, he invited MTV to his Connecticut mansion to preview tracks from the group’s sophomore disc, tentatively titled Lock and Load.
"I created monsters," 50 said about his groupmates. "Frankensteins. I got three of them. It's like creatively they got strong opinions on things they like. I think their solo careers changed what our collaborations were in the beginning. If you look at the beginning of the mixtapes, I was creating the hooks."

Lock and Load would be the follow-up to an already-busy 2008 for G-Unit, after already releasing two mixtapes, Return of the Bodysnatchers v.1 and Elephant In The Sand, over the past couple months. DJ Drama has also confirmed that he was working with 50 on a G-Unit Gangsta Grillz mixtape.

But the new stream of content can be attested to 50’s disappointment with the sales of last year’s Curtis.
"It was a blockbuster that I lit, and it didn't explode. I felt like it should have went a lot further than the results I received,” he told MTV. “Publicly, I feel that 50 Cent fans don't believe it was a dud. It did have 'I Get Money,' it did have 'Ayo Technology,' 'I'll Still Kill,' 'Follow My Lead' with Robin Thicke. These records were hit records, but the timing they came out was wrong. If the first record you heard off Curtis was 'I Get Money,' it would have shifted more millions in sales."

The interview also has 50 talking about his loss of interest in the democratic primary, the content of his web site ThisIs50.com, his reputation amongst the general public, and his upcoming Blood In The Sand videogame.

50 Cent Speaks On G-Unit's Finances

With MTV’s seemingly endless coverage on 50 Cent, their latest interview with the head of G-Unit allowed him to address the financial rumors of each member and why his relationship with the crew is more like a band of brothers.

A recent online interview on YoRaps with Young Buck claiming he never received a royalty check from his record sales sparked a massive rush of rumors across the Internet. Even after manager Sha Money XL countered Buck’s statements saying they were false [click here to read...], skeptical views developed. 50 Cent addressed these rumors and explained how each G-Unit member has profited.

“Each person in G-Unit has earned over $10 million in their career at this point. Outside of the guys that didn’t release product—M.O.P., Spider Loc, Olivia—the guys that had their projects go out physically,” he said.

While members like Lloyd Banks and Young Buck released their projects as far back as 2004 (The Hunger For More, Welcome to Cashville), as well as 15 years of Mobb Deep product, many entertainers easily spend millions yearly. 50 acknowledged this fact and admitted that what happened with their money is solely upon them.

“I didn’t say they have $10 million, I said they’ve seen $10 million. What they did with their paper, I don’t know,” 50 said.
Continuing to address the Young Buck rumors and the stability of the group as a whole, 50 offered his explanation for why their status has seemed overly dramatized.

“I think you have to give them something to blow it out of proportion. Buck did that. I think that what he was saying, in order to validate himself as a man, he feels he has to go against what I’m doing, similar to some of the things we’ve seen from Game,” he said.

While stating that his relationship with Buck is much deeper than the one between himself and Game, 50 explained Buck’s loyalty and how he has to play the big brother role amongst the entire group.

He’ll back off of it, when we’re in direct conversation. When he’s out in public, he’ll say something. They’re like my younger brothers, but they’ll do shit for attention. They’ll do things, then when I look like, ‘What are you doing?’, they’ll be like, ‘Oh, nah, because you was doing this… [or] Because you didn’t call me when you were on the international tour.’ I’m like, ‘Are you kidding me? You didn’t call me neither,' so what does that mean?” 50 concluded.

50 Cent Fires Warning Shots At Rick Ross

Last year, 50 Cent didn't have the year he thought he should have had. He wasn't alone in thinking that. Many fans also believed 2007 wasn't quite the best year for Fif. Some even went so far as to say he may have been falling off. Now, 50 admits there were errors made, but he mainly puts the blame on the label. According to new reports, 50 is stating that the label heads, including Eminem, asked Fif not to release too many mixtapes citing that the tapes would take away from his official album record sales.
"They think I'm crazy," 50 told MTV about Eminem and label heads. "Sometimes [Em] misses why I put it out. He goes, 'Why did you put it out?' But I can't be as hot as I'm gonna be if I don't play around. I gotta spar before I go fight the champ. That's my concept of it. If I don't go out and make material and lock in, I'm not gonna make the best possible material for the next [official] project."

Aside from mixtapes and albums, 50 has also been working on beef. Recently, he and Fat Joe were in the midst of a war of words and photos. Now, he is going against rumors that claim he created a photoshopped picture of Joe's wife.
"The Hip-Hop Weekly [a fake cover] came out, and it was a thing with [Benzino] supposed to be [sleeping] with Fat Joe's wife. I didn't make that. I didn't have anyone [Photoshop] that. Why would you do that? I work for Hip-Hop Weekly? They'll know that there are issues between me and Joe, so when he approaches them, they'll say, 'Nah, it must be 50. You know how 50 is.' But I didn't care, 'cause I don't like Joe neither. It doesn't matter to me that they did it, but it didn't come from me."

Now, 50 is throwing warning shots at another MC, Rick Ross.

"Rick Ross is doing good. I also complimented him that he had the #1 album. I said, 'Just don't stand too close to this fat piece of ...' I'm saying that because of what [Joe's] trying to do. He runs to Miami and hangs out with them like he's running Miami? Does Fat Joe run Miami? I don't think Fat Joe runs Miami. I think people from Miami would be upset you're even questioning that. The fact he can influence DJ Khaled on the radio, does that mean Fat Joe runs Miami? ... I don't care if [Khaled] ever plays my records. He's not important enough to what I'm doing for it to matter. Not to say Miami doesn't count. He doesn't count for it to matter to me."
G-Unit's next LP, Lock and Load is scheduled to drop in the Summer. Before I Self Destruct, 50's new album is set to hit shelves late in 08.

Beyonce & Jay-Z Married (Again?)

According to People Magazine, superstar songstress Beyonce Knowles and longtime clandestine boyfriend Jay-Z have taken out a marriage license in Scarsdale, N.Y. A source reportedly told the magazine that the pair obtained a license this morning (Tuesday, April 1). The document is valid for 60 days.

Beyoncé, 26, and Jay-Z, 38, have been dating since 2002, though the couple have stood reluctant to discuss their relationship publicly. Rumors about their romance began circulating after the singer appeared on Jay-Z's song "'03 Bonnie & Clyde," followed by collaborations on Beyoncé's solo hit "Crazy in Love," in 2003.

Since then rumors have surfaced multiple times about a possible marriage, especially after the two were spotted with matching "IV" tattoos on thier ring fingers after a trip to Paris just a few months ago. Could this all be part of an April Fool's joke for the paparazzi?

A rep for Beyoncé told People, "No comment."

Kanye West Debuts Travel Website

Kanye West has tried his hand at producing, rapping, fashion design and blogging. Now he will attempt to add travel agent to the list. This week marks the launch of KanyeTravel.com, a travel site which maintains partnerships with other online travel agencies to offer low-priced airfares, hotels and rental cars. The site charges no service or membership fees, and also plans to offer travel packages which include Kanye West concert tickets and officially licensed merchandise.

"We did a lot of due diligence with online travel partners," says Miki Woodard, president of West Brands. Woodard tells Adage that Travelocity will be an online partner along with a major wireless carrier and an automaker that will be announced later.

West's camp believes his resources and international fan base will allow him to succeed where other celebrity travel programs have failed. The long list of companies eager to for cross-promotional deals which give them the potential to advertise to millions of West's fans, will likely create new sponsorships in the weeks leading up to the April 16 launch of his Glow In the Dark tour. The debut of the site also coincides with the release of single and video "Homecoming," in which West rhymes about being homesick and traveling back to his native Chicago.

Khia Disses Trina, Wants To Have Lil Wayne's Baby

Lil Wayne received some unlikely promotion this week courtesy of the beef between Florida female rappers Trina and Khia.
It all started online with a graphic on The Baddest Chick’s website promoting her latest effort, “Still the Baddest” which hit shelves yesterday. Assuring fans that the release was no April Fools joke, the animation promoted the album while taking a shot at Khia.
“No April Fools joke, leave that for Khia’s album… if it ever does drops.”

Word got back to Khia who posted a response in the form of a blog titled “DA BULLET ISNT [sic] DAONLY THANG DATS BEN IN DAT BICH TRINA MOUTH” which took shots at Trina while proclaiming her love for Weezy and a desire to procreate with the Cash Money Millionaire.

“YALL SEEN WHAT HAPPENED AFTER DAT SHE LOST HER MAN...... FROM WHOM I HAVE EVER INTENTION ON MAKING MINE...... DATS RIGHT WEEEEEEZY!!!!!YESSSSSSSSS!!! THE QUEEN HAS CHOSEN. YALL AINT SEEN HER SHE DONE LOST WEIGHT AND FROM DA LOOKS OF THANGS. THIS IS WRONG TIME FOR HER TO EVEN THINK TO PUT OUT A ALBUM. ALL I COULD THINK OF IS HOW SHE NEEDED TO CONTINUE WITH PEDIALITE AND ENSURE. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE BREAST FEED DIS BITCH? OR SHOULD I DO IT SINCE MY TITTIES LOOK LIKE DEY SLEEP!!!! OR IS IT DAT IM DA ONLY BITCH DAT CAN PRODUCE SWEET MILK. ASK WEEEEEEEZY!!!!! I LUVVVVVVVV HIM. I WANNA BE HIS LADY!!!!!!!!”
“I WANNA BE WEEZY'S LADY AND HAVE HIS BABY.”

Khia also warned Nivea—who was also linked to Wayne—to “go back to ya husband” because “ur a mother now.”
Before closing out the blog entry, she also thanked Trina “for all the promotion.”
As of press time, Wayne—who’s currently riding high (no pun intended) from the release of The Carter 3’s lead single, “Lollipop”—has not responded to Khia’s offer.

50 Cent Kicks Young Buck Out Of G-Unit & More!

What started out as another conversation between Miss Jones and her co-hosts on New York's Hot 97 radio station today [April 7] ended with a surprise phone call from Hip Hop heavyweight Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson who called in to clear up misconceptions about the law suit with his ex-girlfriend and mother of his son, talked about the differences between his real life and Get Rich or Die Tryin (which was based on his life), as well as startling comments about Lil Wayne, Fat Joe and the future of Young Buck with G-Unit.

Recently 50 Cent won a law suit which gave him the right to evict his ex-girlfriend, their son, and his ex's current boyfriend from his multi-million dollar home he had promised her she and her son could live in. When asked about how he could treat his ex in such a manner after she took care of him after he was almost fatally shot [as depicted in the movie] he replied "Thats a movie, i tried to paint a more positive outlook on her. I haven't dealt with her since 2003....she's not a nurse, [her new boyfriend] is a nurse. He's an RN...a regular nigga!" He then went on to say that as another part of the court ruling, his ex now owes him $9,000. "She's doing worse than Fat Joe right now," he joked.

50 then went on to talk about rival Fat Joe: "I'm not even tryin to sell a record... I'm just gonna give u the time of your life right now, homeboy. He got, like, 67k records in three weeks? He's finished!...He's soft, them boys in the Bronx don't even wanna deal wit him....he wants to 'say' that he wants to fight me. I told him the address on the record. It's not hard to find me....they know not to come around here wit that."

As far as the brewing beef with Lil Wayne who publicly decided not to respond to 50's taunts months ago, 50 says "He's smart. I be testing him." But also wonders why Jay-Z chose to not respond to Lil Wayne's negative comments when the two of them were rumored to have beef. "They had little altercations an dstuff...wow...Jay-Z must not want no trouble."
In response to his rumored altercation with Floyd Mayweather, 50 had this to say: "Yeah, we got into a little thing. We're both [are] real physical [people] and I put my hand in his face...its a reflex for him to punch...we get into lil things but...it wasn't a fight; [it wasn't serious]."

But most notably, 50 made it clear about the status of Young Buck, who has had a tumultuous relationship with G-Unit for the past several months:
"You can look at it and see that's Game all the way. I was giving him a chance, giving him the benefit of the doubt [to remain with the group]. You can take this as an official notice right here – pretty much you can say: Young Buck is no longer in the group G-Unit, but signed to G-Unit as a solo artist."

We all know that Buck is gonna leave the group.... AND we all know FOR DAMN SURE... 50 suffers from bitchassness

"Tha Carter III" Pushed Back Again?

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III has apparently been delayed yet again.

According to SOHH, the album, which was due out in May, is now slated for a June release.
The New Orlean's rapper hasn't released an album since 2005's Tha Carter II, though he has appeared on a slew of features and remixes, keeping him a fan favorite.

Tha Carter III has gone through numerous delays. Named "the #1 most anticipated album of 2007" by XXL, the release date was changed to 2008 after most of the album leaked in mid-2007. Wayne subsequently put out a release called The Leak, comprised of the most of that music.

Tha Carter III is due out on June 10th via Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Recordings.

I dont give a fuck about weezy or C 3 anymore.... he also suffers from bitchassness

T.I.: "I Brought it on Myself"

Rapper T.I. sat down recently with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution to grant his first interview since he was arrest for and plead guilty to three firearm charges.

For those unawares, T.I. was arrested for buying machine guns and silencers. As a result, the rapper was charged with 1,000-plus hours of community service, and 366 days in prison.
T.I. spoke on numerous things, one of which was his passion for community service: "I still have a huge amount of passion for what I do. I still have a huge amount of passion for doing what I can for the community. I still have my foundation — remembering where I came from and principles that have been instilled in me. But at the same time I also have an acknowledgment of things that need to be left behind, let go. And also an acknowledgment that there has to be an about-face. A 180-degree turn, in order for us to continue on the path to success."

366 days... forreal.... 366???... i guess its cuz of the leap yr....

Chuck Liddell Has No Love For Kimbo Slice

After gaining popularity via a series of backyard fights that made it to the Internet, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson has not yet gained the respect of his new mixed martial arts peers.

The latest MMA veteran to take issue with Slice’s rising popularity is former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell. Despite Kimbo’s undefeated record, Liddell is not yet sold on the sport’s newest star.
"People talk about him like he's the next great thing when he really hasn't done anything.”

Slice is currently 2-0 in professional competition, but has been in the octagon less than two minutes. He made short work of Bo Cantrell, knocking him out in 19 seconds in his EliteXC debut back in November.
He also made short work of former UFC fighter David “Tank” Abbott at EliteXC’s “Renegade” with a knockout coming at 49 seconds in the first round.
Liddell quickly dismissed the victories, and also sized up Slice’s MMA weaknesses.
"When Kimbo fought Cantrell, that was the third time he's been knocked out in under 30 seconds,” Liddell stated. "Kimbo's one of those guys who doesn't have any ground game. He's training and he's learning but he's been built up as such a big star and that's the thing that bothers me.”

“The Iceman” also jokingly said he too could build up an impressive online resume of street fights as well.
"I could make some impressive knockout videos too if you let me walk outside and just punch people and knock them out – "hey you, come fight! Fuck we can make a highlight reel tomorrow and go round beating people up and talk about it – we could just go up to people and start dropping them – wow!" he said in an interview with The Sun.
Slice is scheduled to face an unnamed opponent at EliteXC’s network television debut on CBS May 31.

Liddell can wipe the floor w/ Kimbo.... Period, Liddel is right... if he went on the street & fought dudes... he would have a beast tape too

JD and Island Def Jam Connect With Tag Body Spray For New Label

Hip-Hop producer Jermaine Dupri and Island Def Jam have just opened up a new record label, TAG Records, which is a joint venture with Tag Body Spray. Dupri, who will act as president of the New York-based business, will set the creative vision for the label and play an integral part in identifying and developing its musical talent.

It's said that this will be a huge milestone for the music industry as artists will be supported with a multi-million dollar marketing effort that is unprecedented for any new artist, including television, print, radio, digital and event marketing.

"Today, we make history in the music industry with TAG Records," said Jermaine Dupri, president of TAG Records. "This label is going to provide new artists with a chance of a lifetime. New artists will receive ten times the typical marketing support - a first in the industry. I'm hand selecting and molding these artists to make history in hip hop."

TAG Record's first artist will be officially announced in May. The artist will be given a unique opportunity to merge their music with personal brand marketing.

In addition to an album release, the TAG Brand will showcase TAG Record's artist and Jermaine Dupri across various TAG brand advertising and marketing initiatives throughout 2008.

UniverSoul Has Hip-Hop, Honors LL Cool J

By Kim Osorio, BET.com

Posted April 15, 2008 -- Hip-hop has always had a universal appeal, transcending across international borders. So it's only fitting that hip-hop be the soundtrack to the long-lasting UniverSoul Circus, which is currently celebrating its 15th season. Now, just as hip-hop has lent its sound to the Circus, the Circus is giving back to hip-hop, honoring the legendary LL Cool J this coming Saturday (April 19) in Queens, NY.

LL will come home to Queens to be honored, with NY State Senator Malcolm Smith, for creating the Queens-based "Jump and Ball" Tournament held every summer. "It is extremely important for us at the UniverSoul Circus to recognize these two individuals who have taken the time to give back to their community despite their status," said UniverSoul Circus CEO Cedric Walker.

But LL Cool J is not the only connection that the Circus has to hip-hop. Incorporating current hip-hop songs helps move the show along, entertaining the audience in between acts. When songs like Webbie's "Independent" blast through the speakers, the crowd reacts with tremendous energy, standing up in their chairs and singing along with the song. It truly is a hip-hop experience.

The UniverSoul Circus opens in Queens today. It hit the New York area last month in Brooklyn and will continue on to the Bronx and Newark after Queens. For more information or to get tickets to the show, visit Universoulcircus.com.

Akon's Con Job

Akon's ad nauseum claims about his criminal career and resulting prison time have been, to an overwhelming extent, exaggerated, embellished, or wholly fabricated, an investigation by The Smoking Gun has revealed.

I don't know why some of these guys think they need to be hardcore criminals to be cool. I thought that went out of style in the 80s-90s or something.

Michelle Williams has a new album! The album UNEXSPECTED will be availible August 12 in stores and online. The third album is R&B with the breakout single, We Break the Dawn. It's availible through iTunes, Amazon and Napter. Love this song! She sounds COMPLETLY DIFFERENT from what she did in DC or in her Gospel albums so I hope everything goes well for her with this album.
