The debate is weather or not Japan has swear words or not. As a person who lived in Japan, and can speak Japanese as well as English, I can say Japan has no swear words and the adding of swear words in anime subs is not needed and only makes little brats and fad fallowers think that anime, and Japan has swearing wich is 100% wrong In my eyes.

I have problems with believing that there are no swear words. I don't know Japanese or anything, so I can't come with examples. But I've always had the expression that all languages has tabu words(if they weren't tabu, they would be accepted as normal words) that(mostly young) people use. It doesn't have to be direct translations from english swearing words. Different things are tabu different places, like here, in Scandinavia, many religious words have been turned into swearing. In southern europe, offending someone's mother can be swearing(or so I've heard).

Nope.. Lived there for 8 years and I speak Japanese as well As I speak English. I also have a wife who I met in Japan, She happens to be Japanese and She agrees with me, Japan does not have curse words, they have rude coments but no swear words. From my understanding both Japan and the Welsh have to barrow there swear words from other countries. But then I might be wrong about the Welsh.

I like to point out rude does not = swear word.

I can make a rude remark without having to swear.

That is not what I meant with rude. I meant words that you "can't" say in front of the king. Like the vulgar word for vagina(I don't know what it is in english) is considered sewaring in norway, and quite rude to say(of course it depends on the context).

Mabye japanese don't have swearing words(I still find it weird), but last summer I met a guy from wales. He wasn't wery good at welsh, and almost every welsh word he said, I would consider sewaring and really vulgar. Mabye there weren't swear words in welsh originally, but I think there is now.
