Vegetarians/ Vegans, the sole reason that today's rain forests are disappearing.

Well, not really.
But what makes you a vegetarian/vegan? I have yet to find one with a proper response.

I suppose you could say, "I don't like to eat God's creatures", which is silly because you could also argue that they are there for that reason.

You could say "They have a soul", but what really differentiates plant and animal life? Is eating plants really any better?

Vegetarianism seems to me a growing fad sweeping the nation. First a rockstar does it, than thousands of teenage girls and guys follow suit. If you had not known about vegetarianism through media, local communication, or otherwise would you have become one? Do you think its a lame "lifestyle". Commence Discussion!

Well, vegetarians never said that they would protect everything else besides living animals. Also I don't think it'll have much effect on plants since that if more vegetables are needed, it can provide more jobs for farmers.

Well, I'm vegetarian because I was raised that way by my parents. In the years that I've been old enough to factor in the reasons, I don't see a definite reason for me to begin eating meat. I'm healthy, saving the animals (not really), and I have something I can share with people. Win, win, win.

The vegans who say they are vegans because they would be killing living things if they eat animals are simply fucking idiots.

First off, plants are living things too, they have cells as well. Thus they are a multi-celled living thing.

Second, it can be alive it it only has one cell. bacteria is also alive. So whenever you use mouthwash or brush your teeth with certain kinds of toothpaste. Your killing not hundreds, but thousands of single celled bacteria in your mouth. But that would even begin to make a difference in the number of bacteria that are in your mouth. There are millions of bacteria that live in your mouth. So if you say "Well I don't want to kill anything" Then fine, never eat anything again, and never use mouthwash and never brush your teeth again.

So if you say your a vegan because you don't want to kill living things, that's pure stupidity,

There is no dependable philosophical argument for only eating plants.

I'll stay out of your way.

Does it really matter what people eat they either eat meat or plants, either way all i have to say is more for me because i like them both.

personally i've got the feeling that more and more nations become pure carnivores...like china, etc.

is that any better?

cows need to eat grass, too!
the animals that we omnivores are eating do need to eat, too...such as grass, plants, etc.

your argument is bollocks.

I dont think the vegans are responsible for declining rainforest,i think eveyone has a hand in the this, carnivores, omnivores, allthevores and star wars and neither do i think its lame..as they say to each their own right?dont get me wrong i am no vegan and i find it difficult to understand how these vegans avoid eating the wondrous sustenance known as meat.well all i can say about vegans is they have stronger willpower than me if they can resist MEAT.

I'm not a vegan, but I rarely eat meat. The reason is because I personally think it's easier to find tainted meat than it is to find tainted veggies. And I just don't trust many people with the preparation. It doesn't matter where I've been, too many times has the meat been undercooked. I've even gotten salmonella from a lady who couldn't properly cook the chicken. The lamb at Christmas last year tasted like it had just been shot 5 minutes ahead of time. I don't trust it.

But I think I know where to find good vegetables, and I cannot count one time that they have made me sick.

I think one argument that vegans may have is that it is more efficient to eat plants. In the food chain, whenever energy is transferred from creature to creature via consumption, the amount of energy gained is only about 10% of what was consumed. This means that when a cow eats grass, it only gains 10% of the energy contained within the grass. So, if we continue the cycle and eat the cow, we only get 10% of the cow's energy, which is only 1% of the plant's original energy. Of course, this has nothing to do with nutrients, but it's something.

We say we don't want to kill living things, but we never said we didn't.
