DBSK's popularity...

Shinhwa was the first korean boyband to attain the title of 'asia's boyband' then. they hit their peak during 2004 with their 7th jib and got 3 daesungs for it.
HOT, nah... they're popular too, but they simply disbanded over monetary issues while ShinHwa did all they can to stay together even in times of serious problems. Their leader Eric played a very important role for them still maintaining their pioneering top spot after these 10 years.
but i dont think ShinHwa can be considered as BOYband anymore, since 2/3 of them are already 30 yrs old men.
But to me, ShinHwa will forever be a legend. They're the legendary boyband nobody else can ever replace, not even DBSK.
because seriously, there's absolutely nothing with ShinHwa that's un-likeable. ShinHwa Changjo are a group of erm... rational fans too!
no, no... not pointing fingers at any particular fandom.

Umm I love Shinwha and not to be rude but HOT was the first asia's boyband, they were first to hit the top korean charts 2 months after debut and they were the first to have a fanclub in china and practically opened the halluyu wave. It doesnt really matter how long a group stays together but more of what they accomplished in the years they were active.

but still i feel quite disappointed that they simply disbanded over money issues. it's such a waste.
perhaps HOT is the first boyband to start the hallyu wave, but i think ShinHwa kinda fortified it and brought it to a higher level?
i have many friends who know Shinhwa and yet doesnt know HOT nor DBSK, nor other korean boybands.
now, back to the dbsk topic.
now that we roped in HOT and ShinHwa, don't you see some similarities?
they all debuted under SM. so perhaps the qn, why dbsk are so damned popular when they're just like any other talented boybands...
perhaps it's the marketing strategy of SM Ent.?
okay, fangirls don't quote me and give me another 1001 reasons why dbsk's popular because of their own talents and nothing else. i've had enough of that.

If your asking me then ill copy my post from earlier

Maybe because they can sing, dance and have good looks all at once... also they have good personalities and has stayed humble even when theyre at top already. And I can tell they have passion for music and the job they are doing, even though theyre dead tired they still manage to smile to give fans a good show. They also give you a variety of genres like SMP, ballads, acapella, techno, jazz, so you never get bored. They can write their own music and play instruments. And the thing that made me love them even more was their background story of how they started from nothing like jae and yunho being homeless, yoochuns america struggle before going to SM.. it made me realize that they have really worked hard from scratch having absolutely nothing to becoming famous and rich and it suprised me that they manage to still stay humble.

Some groups can sing but can barely dance, some groups can dance but can barely hold a note, some groups only have a few good looking people.

Alot of people work hard but not alot of people travel back and fort from japan to korea almost every week and perform atleast 2 or 3 times the day they arrive, had 3 concert tours going at once and can still perform well even when sick.

SM Ent. marketing strategy would not work if they are promoting talentless people.

I'm not a fangirl so I can give a good review.

Lets see. They have this charisma other people just lack of. And they are entertaining. That is an important factor when you perform on stage. To entertain people is more important than having a good voice

I agree with people when they say DBSK is talented, but to be honest, i'm not really in love with them. When i listen to their songs, i get bored of it after listening to it for one time... No offense. I personally don't find them that attractive either. They're just ok to me when it comes to that. =/

I so agree with you, AMEN to that

I AGREE!
Uhh..I think the cause of DBSK's popularity is that they might have been the one's to start off this "trend" in Asia?
I dunno, uhh, I guess all the other singers that have debued after them havnt gotten alot of popularity because the "fangirls" of DBSK are pretty much all SKorean females, in general?umm, If you think about it, the new boybands that have came out this year have the same qualities as DBSK, and thats the problem. In general, they're pretty much "copying" DBSK's kind of style, which makes music VERY VERY BORING, bands such as: Bang Bang Tang, UKISS, Smash, Battle, etcc (it seems like talent agencys made these bands up in 5 minutes ).. I think that record labels should widen their musical perspective and think of bands that will make a breakthrough, and to not copy whats already out there.Bands like: SHINee, 2AM/PM, and FT Island have very different qualities and their types of genre of singing made them very succesful.
DONT GET ANGRY, these are my opinions..You dont have to listen to me...just letting out my ideas...
PEOPLE NEED NEW MUSIC! I cant stand the new typical boybands..Personally, I love DBSK and I think that they're the whole package: voice, dance, looks, and personality..

To me, Bang Bang Tang reminds me of Fahrenheit and Battle reminds me of Big Bang.. Then again, maybe it's just me? =P

basically, they've got the whole package:
talent, charisma, and the ability to entertain.

looks and "better" music are subjective, and most people tend to debate on that, but their talent definitely can't be denied.

personally, I didn't like them at first. The fact that they were everywhere annoyed me, and I was questioned why they were so popular. I didn't find them that great looking either. Just by listening to their songs, I didn't feel like they were something that special, but after watching some of their shows, mini-dramas, and live performances, I couldn't help getting enthralled. They're just such cute, funny, and down to earth guys, that I couldn't help falling in love. I got really fond of them after a while, and realized just how gorgeous they really are.

Personally, for me only la.

I only like boybands that can sing well... and there are not many what.

I used to like suju(no offense) but then I heard their live.. mm.. no comments. Then I liked wondergirls.. their live... no comments. Then when I saw the kpop concert where 2pm came to singapore.. no comments. but their dancing is great ^^

then i heard jewelry live and dbsk live <3333333

Why are they so famous?

Looks, they got it! Jae is so pretty. Yunho has so much charisma. Micky can play the role of dorky/dandy boy. Changmin is so manly at times, but so cute at times.. and junsu.. is so funny and cute!

So.. they are.. pretty, charismatic, dandy, manly. cute and funny.

Their vocals?

Their live are sometimes even better then their recorded ones.. And they have improved so much during this 5years...

Their dance?

Omg, hot! Did you see junsu pelvic wave?
Yunho is weaker at vocals compared to the other members.. but he is one of the strongest or the strongest in dance.

And they have so many activities! So.. you can never feel bored with the fandom as there is always something you haven't see or didn't kow.

But still.. they are humans and to have 800k of people bowing to them ... is still.. quite unacceptable.. haha.

So.. i also think they are overated.. But they earned all their fans by themself so it's not their fault.. It's the fans fault! =p

SM Ent. marketing strategy would not work if they are promoting talentless people.

and talented people can't climb to the top under a lousy agency/record label.
and they're all singers who has cut albums already, so we can actually leave out the 'talent' or 'x-factor' part. do you seriously think that those agencies will put in funds for the debut of a bunch of talentless people?
they got scouted, they had their debut, they've cut albums, they've acted in dramas, they've performed in musicals etc.
i think to a certain extent everybody in the entertainment circle has some talents, if not, the agencies wouldn't want them.
thus, SM Ent. wont be promoting talentless people in the first place. neither would YG, DSP etc.
and since they started from scratch with absolutely nothing to their name as from what you've stated, all the more they will remain humble. sorry to say, there's no need to be surprise over that. only those who have not tasted bitterness in life will not understand the meaning of humility.
moreover, with the scary anti-fans breathing down their back, i dont think any korean artistes in their right state of mind will dare to behave arrogantly? (sorry if i'm wrong about this)
perform well even when sick, sick as in cold? flu?
wilber pan, minwoo, and hyunjoong all finished up their concert even though they got injured. wilber and minwoo got some knee cap injury and leg injury while huynjoong dislocated his shoulder.
quoting wilber, 'as an artiste, even if i were to die, i will die on stage.'
lousy translation, but that's roughly what he has said.
i'm not saying dbsk sucks, i like JaeMin couple and junsu too.
but they're definitely overrated by fangirls' godification.
