it's called Tsundere. I like my girls a little damaged, it makes them more approachable and human.

No one asked you to?

Its a very difficult thing to put into words. Taiga, while being vicious and violent at times, has a very soft inside. Its like a bubble she puts up to protect herself, and it's very endearing to see her gradually open up to Ryuji and start trusting him so deeply. As a previous poster said, the term for this is Tsundere. She's really just an insecure person, which makes her more human. I can honestly relate more to Taiga more than the other girls because of this. That, and her outbursts make it that much more endearing when she finally opens up. Its like a reward. And finnally add to this the fact that her default (when not throwing a fit) personality is quite enjoyable.

However you do see the exact opposite with Minorin. She acts incredibly bubbly and energetic and hard working as her own shield. Its the same exact concept, but with a different tool being used. Ami does this as well with the fake personalities she puts up. Even Ryuji does this by trying his damnedest to help Taiga. Has no one noticed that in the entire series he put no real effort into going after Minorin, and in fact ditched many opportunities just to help out Taiga. (Whether this keeps up or not is anyone's guess, unless you already know of course.)

The whole "you're just a dog" thing is an act she puts on, a layer of protection so that she can remain close to someone she has made a bond with, while not risking hurting herself by way of an actual relationship. You can see this many times throughout the series. At several points she apologies to Ryuji about her behavior and even tries to make them even. Its Ryuji that perpetuates the whole master/servant thing, not her. Heck, several times she even drops her shields completely and all but confesses her feelings for him. One of these times was even during her confession to the guy she "likes".

So in the end, I'm left wondering how you can NOT like her, or at least be neutral. If you think she only acts like a bitch and theres nothing more to her, then I think a lot of the undertones of the series simply flew over your head. In the end, Taiga is one of the more broken and sympathetic characters. Its made so blindingly obvious that she has good reasons for being the way she is AND that she's calming down for Ryuji, that I am actually dumbfounded that you missed it.

If there's a character that deserves some hatred is probably Kitamura for being a complete jackass about the whole Taiga thing. He knows for a fact she has feeling for him, yet fucks with her mind almost constantly by just pretending to not notice (or maybe he's just that forgetful?), though he might be doing it for her sake. Ami deserves some hate as well for being a manipulative bitch, but at least there it's made clear that she has her reasons and is growing as a person. Heck, at this point in the series you can almost start feeling sorry for her.

Taiga is great because she's not what most people expect from an anime character or atleast that was the case with me

Well I probably would like her,but after seeing more or less the EXACT same personality in Shana,Louise and Nagi,it's starting to get a little...repetitive.

thats somewhat true... but if you think about it, Taiga is more likeable than Louise. Taiga's personality is also really different from Louise, because there's no substantial underlying character development for Louise or a deep underlying reason why she treats and calls Saito a dog. On the other hand, the Taiga-Ryuji relationship is not a set one, unlike that of Saito-Louise, where they even exchanged some sort of vows. The dragon-tiger relationship is more of a friendship and deep trust that borders on romantic love, or an unrealized romantic love. Once that is squared away, theres no reason for Taiga to treat Ryuji as below her (to my opinion she doesnt now, but as a sort of defense mechanism)--unlike Louise, who continued to behave like a b*tch because Saito doesnt sufficiently notice her.

I liked her from the very start, she is a fierce girl. She has this reputation of being a bad girl she doesn't put up with anyone's crap. I think that's why I like her. Then when she starts to kick your butt you see her completely fall to pieces when she is around Kitamura so adorable *Kawaii*
Since she met Ruiji she has become more calm, but I'm still up in the air about who she will end up with, if any..

She doesn't care much of what people think about her (with the exception of Kitamura xD). Her personality is adorable and hilarious. I love everything about her character. ^_^
