Hi guys,

We've been receiving a lot of questions on exactly what the Anime Membership will be like, so I put this together to answer a few questions. There is also an FAQ you can check out.

What will the video quality be like?
It will be High Definition - Check out the sample here. Free accounts will have Standard Definition (like what's available now). Anime Members will have access to LQ, HQ, H264, 480P, and 720P, while normal users will only have LQ, HQ, and H264. Video quality depends on the source, but since we are getting it directly from the animation studios, it will be the best possible for new shows. Older shows from like 5-10 yrs ago may not have good quality videos.

When do we get to watch it?
The Anime Membership begins on Jan 8th. When it launched, Anime Members will get simulcast (access on same day it airs in Japan) for currently airing shows, while normal users get it later (currently 1 week later). For older episodes of currently airing shows (as well as older shows), we may release it on a schedule or all at once. We will have a release calendar (like a TV Guide) available soon!

Sub or dub?
All the shows will have English subtitles. Most will be soft subtitles, but may have hardsubs if softsubs aren't available. Subtitles will be provided professionally. We are currently exploring subtitles in other languages besides English.

Territory restrictions?
We try to get permission for worldwide broadcast (except for country of origin), but rights clearance is complicated! It will vary from country to country. We'll have a page with ALL the details soon! For example, Naruto Shippuden is worldwide except for Japan.

Downloads?
Not all videos will have DTO (download to own). Also, DTO is not covered by the Anime Membership and is a separate purchase. The Anime Membership is a subscription for high quality, early access, streaming.

What shows will you have for the Anime Membership?
We're currently putting together a list. Sorry it's taking so long~! We have to wait to announce certain things. But it looks like there will be roughly 150 titles available. If you have any suggestions on what you want to watch, just reply to this thread~!

What payment methods are available?
Credit card, Paypal, and postal snail mail. Also, for those of you who don't have money, you can get it for FREE (by taking like 2-3 surveys or signing up for things) We are currently exploring other methods like prepaid cards and things like PayByCash. If you have any other suggestions, let us know!

It's about time. Crunchryroll says they're launching a new anime membership thing, but they don't tell us anything in detail about what exactly the benefits are. I was wondering if some people's questions were ever going to be answered.

That's all nice, but what about is if we can have user made anime items?(from shows we have on CR) wouldnt hurt to ask now would it?

Also can you tell us if this anime membership has anything bonus with Cr land?

haha gun ;P yup we are also asking for crunchyland items. but they won't be user-made, it will be official ones provided by crunchyroll ;P if you look at the anime membership page, u should see the free naruto headband. that's an official one approved by tv tokyo and the studio who makes naruto =D

How much is it for us to download the episode? Also would the CrunchyCash be usable for episode downloads?

it varies per show. for example, linebarrels is either US$1.99 or 2.99, depending on what u feel like paying (see here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/showproduct?sku=cr-rh-linebarrels-12)

yah the CR Bucks may eventually be used for downloads, but its not available right now =*( crbucks are currently available just for the Anime Membership

so will PayByCash will be available soon?

is the 150 titles all new (currently airing,future releases)? or do they include old animes as well?

I was just wondering how it is you make deals w/certain anime studios and not others. Its just curious to me, I would love to see a partnership with Sunrise. . .
