I don't think it really sucks, since these television channels just want to cater to the masses in order for them to understand these shows better. This can also be a form of inculturating stuff like anime and dramas so that they will appeal more to the public, therefore more income for these channels. To be honest, I think most filipino dubs are way better than english ones anyway.

Most people on this site hate dubs (diiirrr, lol seriously, we're on a sub site)
If dubs reach other people (like some of my friends that won't read anything) then I'm ok with it.

I still havn't even worked out where the Philippines are, I'm obviously not a geography major. (Thats a joke by the way, I have a very rought idea :P)

I think there's a bit of fillo hate for people who have terrible english and bad grammar who tend to make threads that make no sense what so ever. I know it's not your fault and I'm impressed that so many of you, especially the younger ones have taken the time to learn english. I'm under the belief most of the Fillo's on here are self taught english? Do you learn it at schools/do many teach it/how many grades do you learn it for?

In the Philippines, English is taught from Grade School until college, and even if most filipinos don't have the appropriate accents/pronunciation, Filipinos are generally good in English, which is why in most countries, Filipino workers are preferred since they can speak and understand English well. I hope that helped

On topic, even if most Filipinos(of course not all of them) are educated in English well, definitely most kids still won't understand English since they are just starting to learn anyway. That's why we have Filipino dubs. Also, Filipinos value their culture a lot, and because of modernization and the influx of imported materials such as TV shows, they have to find ways in order to keep this culture alive even in the media. And so, we have dubs.

The problem with the sucky dubs, is that until now, anime is still regarded as a children's genre, so not much input is done. Compare it with the Koreannovelas, the quality of the two differs greatly.

Second, the message is lost in translation. Nothing gets to an otaku like a funny japanese joke becoming an unfunny <insert language here> joke. (The two cultures have different erm... cultures... of comedy.) Sometimes, it
hits, sometimes it doesn't.

And lastly, the unfair bit, is the stupid otaku bitching about his anime being dubbed without prior judgment. It's easy pickings when an anime gets dubbed, because the forum/fanbase says so.

Because he says so, WAHAHAHA.

Honestly, I don't see any problems about anime being dubbed in Filipino. I think they're doing a pretty good job dubbing especially when it is from ABS-CBN coz I quiet enjoy most of the animes dubbed in Tagalog. If you have watched Yakitate Japan dubbed in Tagalog, it is very funny! And it is for the childrens sake. Not everyone here has the computer to watch anime online. So please people appreciate it when u can watch it on TV for free.... my goodness!!!

by the way I also want to add the tagalog dubbed of Jang Geum's Dream that is currently airing on GMA TV, I think they've done a good job there too.... I'm watching it every morning and I really appreciate it so much that I couldn't find a complete episode online with english subtitles! So thank you for airing animes for free here in Philippines! Hurray!!!
