Personally, I also prefer subs over dubs (mainly because I have fascination for hearing the Japanese voices rather than the English dubs), but hey, the Filipino-dubbed anime shows are catered, as stated in the previous comments, on the younger audience, e.g. children who still has yet to learn the English language. You are lucky because you are able to watch subbed anime over the internet and you learn to like it better than the dubbed anime shows. But for those who are watching at home, it is impractical to let children watch shows hearing foreign language while reading the Filipino translation because that's plain stupid (children will not be able to enjoy the animation due to stress in reading the subbed lines) , the TV networks will lose their audience then. And if you are arguing that it will make them learn English more or enhance their language, then they're better off going to school to learn stuff than to sit in front of the TV and watch anime. :)

I agree, dubs suck, but only to a point and maybe to some of you. But I guess your comment sounds childish since you're not one of those people who prefer watching anime over their local TV stations.

Yup. But I hate Filipino dubs. The voices sucks cuz most voices sound so childish and it's just not right.

then don't watch the dubbed version.

This is my opinion on Filipino-dubbed anime.

I'm a long-time viewer of Filipino dubbed anime in the Philippines. Filipino-dubbed anime are not as bad as people here think. It's just that some, if not, most of you here are already accustomed to the original Japanese audio of the anime. But I think, once in your lifetime, you were watching these dubbed shows(even enjoyed it, whether admit it or not) before you discovered the original Japanese audio of anime. Sure, it has flaws(e.g. voice miscast, poorly translated script, edited scenes, etc.) but you can go over to the subbed ones for reference. Besides, as others pointed out here, Filipino dubbed anime are catered to the children or those anime fans(like myself) who still appreciate these dubbed shows and not for the hardcore otaku.

During my long-time viewing of Filipino-dubbed anime, I had observed the drastic change of Filipino dubbing. During the 90s, many Filipino-dubbed anime had, IMHO, the greatest dubbed versions. But during the year 2000-onwards, it's a toss-up between the great, the good, and the bad dubs. Sometimes, it really depends on the dubbing team handling the anime including the dubbers involved in the project. The current dubbers today are a mix of veteran and newbie dubbers, some are great, some are good and some are bad in terms of voice projection.

It's just sad that people here especially those calling themselves Filipinos, dissing the Filipino dubbing industry like they know how to do it right.

Why change the language when you can just add subtitles.

Not all people could watch the anime while reading the subtitles. Not all people have good eyesight. Not all people understand english. Not all people are fast readers, of course you can't play and pause it when you want to. Not all people knows how to read. At least think of the other people, everyone's not like you.

If there's no money involved, then all the stations that dubs anime should be sued. Well, since that hasn't happened yet, then there's money involved *cough*licensing*cough*.

Anyways, I don't really hate Filipino dubs, or any dubs for that matter. It's just that we're not used to watching anime in that language, that's why we detest it. High-pitched voice? Yes there are some. But try watching lots of Japanese dubs, can you even identify which is "high-pitched" and not? How can a none Japanese know if they are doing a good job dubbing it?

the target audience are mostly children...most of those children also belong to the "masses" or the poverty line who dosent doesnt go as much school...and study and understand full sentences in english...
also reading subtitle at the same time watching the actions in the screen may be difficult to others...you are kinda using your perception do things at the same time can be hard...while dubbing it, uses your sense of hearing for the sounds and perception in the actions well watching is much smoothly...

ABSCBN in my opinion dub animes best...i watched the filipino dub and the subtitled in english for lines comparison and so far they are loyal to the original concept of the script and dosent loose the humor and the use of words ...the other networks in the other hand sounds corny and cheesy...

hehehe
peace out!

personally i hate dubs and i prefer the subs not unless if the subbers are Chinese
(their subbing sucks to epic proportions )

pirate001 has a point tagalog dubbing anime is for those who don't understand English / Nihongo
tagalog dubbings are alittle more closer to the lines from the original because some if not all the words in the lines as well as the thoughts are there. . . . . . .

to bad for the swearing parts. . . . . . they are immediately omitted or cencored

Agree, for the youth of the nation (sry)

I want my anime subbed over dubbed (for learning reasons)
I hate to watch an anime if it was dubbed in a different language other than Nihongo
(if you have already watched it in its original language)

I couldn't agree more especially when watching an anime with a heavy plot and dialogue is too much for a beginner. Anyway, I couldn't convince most people to watch anime with subs since they have their own preference on watching anime.

I've asked some of my college classmates if they prefer subs or dubs and most of them prefer dubs because they couldn't enjoy watching anime while reading subs. So even in a college level, there are some people that couldn't handle speed reading.
