When I started this website two years ago, my goal was to share anime and Asian videos with my friends and make them fans. I never thought it would grow to be one of the biggest Asian entertainment sites touching MILLIONS of ppl everyday (and that's all thanks to you guys!) I've met so many great ppl on CR and I bump into a lot of ppl that discovered anime through CR and that always motivates me to make CR better. Going into 2009, CR is going through some more changes. I know that change can be little frustrating sometimes, but I promise that we're doing everything we can to make the site better. Sometimes it's not very obvious the reason behind some things, but there are good reasons that I'll try to share. Ever since I realized CR's potential, I wanted it to be a place where everyone benefited including fans and creators. But it's taken a lot of time and work to reach out to the publishers to show them what CR has to offer and I've always respected their work if they requested it be removed. I know this has been frustrating for some of you, but it's been necessary for CR to continue and to build stronger relationships with the publishers to release their work directly onto CR. We now have over 25 publisher partners putting content up and we'll have over 130 titles come January! =D We've made a lot of progress working with the publishers with some great shows coming in January (like Naruto Shippuden!! and many more), but there's still more to do! And much of the user-uploaded fansubs have been holding us back because it doesn't have the creator's permission So for CR to really break through and stay around forever, we are going to have to stop user uploads and take down any unauthorized uploads. This means that only official publishers will be able to upload. But it also means that the videos will be uploaded very quickly, the video quality will be great, and the creators will make money so they can support themselves to make more new stuff. So your support of CR by joining the Anime Membership, you'll be helping the anime industry survive This way, we'll be able to get a lot more good shows on CR.I know this is a big change, but I ask for your patience and faith in CR as I work to bring all the great shows here first! I truly believe this is the right thing to do so that eventually CR will be the only place you need to go to And you guys will all be part of the Crunchyroll revolution! I'll have a lot more announcements to make in the upcoming weeks (and btw, we're not ignoring the dramas either . But please check out the Anime Membership offering – this will give you earlier access and HD quality streams! I have a feeling that 2009 is going to be a great year and a great milestone for CR. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!I bump into a lot of ppl that discovered anime through CR and that always motivates me to make CR better. This is a lie, and your a fucking sellout. This will be the death of cr And that was cruel and unnecessary to be honest, he's doing this in an attempt to get episodes of shows that everyone WILL want to come out, out as soon as possible and with good quality to boot. You should be grateful that you even got to be on a site like this, because honestly there aren't many with as many options as CR. what he is doing is making this quote pointless When I started this website two years ago, my goal was to share anime and Asian videos with my friends and make them fans All he did now was sellout he will lose fans and share less anime just so he can make more money he is a sellout I'm just saying how it is. www.diverse-anime.net has free HD anime to watch not not just Hi rez anime so who wants to buy anime thats not in full HD I know I don't Naruto sucks anyway. would you do it differently? thats why I hate this whole sellout idea maybe with musicians who stop making good music and abandon their mantras because the industry tells them to but if you were in his position you'd do the same thing it's completely natural |

I have a feeling that "Shinji," or the 3-6 people that run CR under the name Shinji, are making this extreme change so they can eventually sell the site. The owners of CR were offered a multi-million dollar deal to sell the site once before but the company that offered the deal ultimately backed out because they didn't want to hassle with the pirated aspect of CR. By going "legit" CR will be more desirable to companies that are looking to buy the site. It seems to me that this move is based on greed and CR is turning it's back on the users that made this site what it is today. Those users that uploaded subbed content on this site helped CR grow and become a popular site all over the world. The owners of CR are thanking them by spitting in their face and laughing all the way to the bank. Someone else mentioned that the younger veiwers don't really realize what is happening to the site and when they do they will eventually stop visiting the site and I agree.
Words can't describe how disappointed l am in CR because of this extremely drastic move they're making but I'm grateful for what CR used to be. Thank you "Shinji" for the good old times because of you I was able to easily watch my favorite dramas and movies (I rarely watched anime here) but I guess that's a thing of the past now. P.S. The only way my disappointment would turn to joy is if CR scored deals with the major (not third rate) Asian movie and TV companies and they agreed to show their dramas and movies on this site but only time will tell. |

I also agree, but my disappointment will stem from anime that is not popular, and most likely not viable in the US (to be subbed in English like Naruto). I guess too bad for me. (And YES I am assuming that anime that studios/producers don't find profitable in the US will not be subbed for the aforementioned reason). |

I'm really happy to see all the progress that Crunchyroll has made. BUT the fact that fan made subs will ALLTOGETHER be removed? I don't get why until if an anime is not being officially released on CR, why can't the fansubs be featured here? I wish you all the luck in the world in getting alot more variety so as to please more than just the Naruto fans, because there are ALOT of people who don't watch Naruto. But at the same time, I'm quite proud of you for obtaining Naruto. It's quite a big deal with all the following it has, so kudos to you Shinji. Good luck in the coming new year, and I will remain a paying member.
Because I support the Anime Industry and want them to know they have our support and viewership. |
